Gardens secret weapon
Our Asian neighbors play music in their garden across the rural street from us and have this big lush garden. My husband recently retired and planted a whole field of melons, squash, and tomatoes. The tomatoes are struggling. He jokingly said he should go play music for his tomatoes to grow better, like In-A-Gadda-da-Vida. So I had to get this. Will let you know if it works. :)

Classic
CD came in perfect condition and plays flawlessly. The case was not broken as some usually are. I've been looking for the longer version of "in a gadda da vida" and it's awesome. Would recommend this CD but be prepared for 2 week delivery from seller. All, in all worth the wait.

It's Great
The LP of Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was packaged very nicely. It even came with a slipcover for the album cover itself. (It may have came with the record originally)The first time I even heard of this song was on The Simpsons which was season Season 7 Epsode 4: Bart Sells His Soul. If you wish to see the clip of The Simpsons whereIn-A-Gadda-Da-Vida on YouTube the video name is called: The Simpsons - In the Garden of Eden - S07E04Since then I wanted to find that song. After years I came across it but instead of being vinal it was a CD mostly because vinals faded away. So I bought the CD and sadly years latter I lost it. I never owned another one until now. So when I found it I thought why not go vinal like it meant to be played on.Long story short it bought me back to when I first heard it on The Simpsons and when I did had the CD around the early 2000s. The record plays smoothly like I went back in time and bought it when it was first released. (Note: This is not a reproduction but one of the original records.) So anyways I'm just lisining to this record as I type out my review.

Groovy, baby!
I think it's fair to say that no music collection emblematic of the '60s is complete without a copy of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," for two reasons. The first is the actual "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" composition, the entire B-side of the original vinyl album. By design, happenstance, or both, IAGDV became an anthem of the times, one that continues to be listenable today.Ray Manzarek tells us that "Light My Fire" was inspired by Coltrane, specifically his deconstruction of "My Favorite Things." Maybe - again by intent or dumb luck - something like that is present in IAGDV and accounts for its longevity. The piece evolves into a tangential structure that returns to the original template, with interesting work by all members.Reason two is the A-side, which is not simply a juxtaposition with side B, but a head-on collision that questions how a group that would create and release this treacle could also create IAGDV. Musically, the five songs of side A are no worse than many other bands of the day. Some segments, such as the end of "Are You Happy?", are quite respectable. But the lyrics - the god awful Brill Building lyrics. They smash any musical noteworthiness of side A. Example: I met a pretty girl on a date last night and let me tell you now she was groovy. Or: Flowers and beads are one thing, but having a girl, that's something. Huh? I don't think The Monkees - heck, even The Archies - would have.... OK, they probably would have, and that's my point.

Nearly 50 years old and showing its age, but fabulous drum solo.
Definitely a period piece, could provide great music for period film/TV doc.s or dramas, but everybody in the known universe should buy this for the sheer delight of the drum solo in the title track. I can still remember the first time I heard it in 1970, I loved the drum solo then and I still love it now.
