Led replacement light
Bulb and switch were very easy to install and work very well. Flashlight is back in working order and better than new.

Acceptable - But put your money into a new LED flashlight instead
- Bottom Line -I wanted this conversion kit to a) get a tail cap switch for one-handed operation and b) a brighter light than the old Maglite light bulb.It works acceptably, but you may want to put the money into a new LED flashlight because it does neither tail cap switch or LED brightness very well.---- Specific points -Regarding the lumens (aka brightness) here are my thoughts. One disclaimer, I don't own an expensive meter or test equipment to measure lumen output, so I am doing this by "eye" against a standard background.a) The LED is noticeably brighter than the old standard Maglite incandescent light bulb.b) However, it is not as bright as a new Maglite LED 2xAA version. From what I could find, if you want a tail cap switch for the Maglite 2xAA, you have two choices.a) This page you're looking at (the LUC2) orb) This other product (NIQ2) <Amazon link: Nite Ize NIQ2-07-1WC Upgrade II, Second Generation 1 Watt L.E.D. and I.Q. Switch, Upgrades AA Mini Mag-Lite from Incandescent to LED Technology with On/Off/Strobe Switch>The LUC2:- This LUC2 product's tail cap switch is kind of cheesy. The cap has no rubber seal to avoid liquid or dirt. It also "feels" kind of loose. I have used other flashlights and their tail cap switches seem more solid.- The tail cap doesn't have a lanyard hole. A lanyard can be handy in my opinion.- Does provide "momentary on". That is: press switch slightly and the light comes on, but release and it goes off. You don't have to press entirely to turn it on and entirely to turn it off. There are times when I want to turn it on and off quickly and I didn't want the switch to be a hindrance. I like this switch for this feature.- This switch can be accidentally switched "on" quite easily. The NIQ2:My dad has this one, and the tail cap slowly blinks dim red continuously when it is electrically connected so you can find it in the dark. Great if you want this, not so great if you don't want constant blinking. To stop the red blinking, you could turn off the electrical connection by twisting the Maglite's focus adjustment, but then you can't turn the light on one-handed with the tail cap switch. This kind of defeats the whole one-handed option. Finally, here are two other (bright) flashlight options with an LED and a tail cap switch. 2 DEFECTIVE only 1 is OK
This is a 11-6-2013 update to my previous review. I bought three of these for my AA MiniMag flashlight delivered on 9-30-13. So I've had these about 1 month. Initially, one of them had the bulb pins break off but two seemed to work OK until today. Then one flashlight just stopped working with this unit in it. Reinstalling the original MiniMag bulb worked fine.I suggest that you DO NOT purchase these as it's hit or miss. Now my miss is 2 out of three. They are UNRELIABLE and may work for a little while. It isn't worth the effort to try to make it work. This is my earlier review when my miss was only 1 out of three.I ordered three units to convert AA Mini-Mags to LED. Two worked and one broke. The light of the new LED is much brighter covering a much wider area than the original bulb. Amazon said they would refund my money for the broken one. When I couldn't get the LED of one to work using the method described below, I pulled it out to try it in another Mini-Mag and one of the two LED pins literally pulled out of the LED unit and is unusable. Before working with the LED, replace the reflective shield in the top part of the Mini-Mag so when the LED is working, you can screw it on. Just as before the replacement, screwing on the top all the way will turn off the flashlight. This kit is really the replacement of the original Mini-Mag light bulb with an LED bulb and a reflective shield in the top with a larger opening for the new LED bulb. The LED bulb is not easy to push into where the previous Mini-Mag light bulb was. For some reason, the replacement LED does not always work as reliably as the original bulb even though the two pins look the same. You can rock the LED from side to side and it might turn on and off indicating a contact problem. This does not occur with the original Mini-Mag bulb.To be sure the new LED bulb is working, insert it into the flashlight with batteries and the original screw-on end (not the replacement on-off end supplied). If the LED lights up just screw on the top. But if the LED doesn't light up, insert the original bulb to see if it is working. If the original bulb lights up, try the LED again. Rocking it back and forth may cause it to light up.You can leave on the original screw-on end or replace it with the new replacement on-off end. Frankly, the new on-off end can be confusing. The Mini-Mag will only light up with the top loosened AND if the new screw-on end in the ON position. If you loosen or unscrew the top as before the change, it will not light up if the screw-on end is in the OFF position. Likewise, if you press the screw-on end to be ON, it will not light up if the top is tightened - the way Mini-Mags worked before the replacement. You can use the original screw-on end with the new LED and it works fine.
