THIS IS A PAL ALL REGIONS DVD. Farhan Qureshi and Raju Rastogi want to re-unite with their fellow collegian, Rancho, after faking a stroke aboard an Air India plane, and excusing himself from his wife - trouser less - respectively. Enroute, they encounter another student, Chatur Ramalingam, now a successful businessman, who reminds them of a bet they had undertaken 10 years ago. The trio, while recollecting hilarious antics, including their run-ins with the Dean of Delhi's Imperial College of Engineering, Viru Sahastrabudhe, race to locate Rancho, at his last known address - little knowing the secret that was kept from them all this time.

Amazing gem of a movie from India with comedy, drama, and inspiring story to keep you engaged from start to finsih
I was recommended this film by a coworker and boy was I glad I watched it. Absolutely wonderful comedy\drama\look at life in India\and social commentary. Really excellent acting, wonderful script, and likeable characters. While it is almost 3 hours long - I was glued to the TV the whole time. The fact that it was in Hindi with English subtitles was no problem and story was very easy to follow. The ending was both heart-warming and inspirational. In my view - the best film I've seen this year (since 2015's Big Short).I'd recommend this to anyone and everyone. Even kids (particularly at teenage years or formative school years) might enjoy it as it shows the value of following your passions and pursuing your happiness, and also makes fun of silly "academia" focused on tests over knowledge or inspiration.Anyway, to sum it up - I loved it.

When you want a feel-good movie with great songs that will make you laugh and cry.
I don't know how to write a review that does this movie justice. I would say that it's a fun comedy with a little romance in it, with some really fantastic songs, but it also made me cry in a couple of places. This movie follows the typical format of the exceptional student/teacher who arrives in schools and challenges the status quo. But unlike all the Hollywood movies, 3 Idiots does this with heart, humor, and soul.Unlike most Bollywood movies that I've seen, this movie starts off right away. It is a bit choppy at first, just throwing characters and conflict at the viewer with no explanation, but once the story begins to unfold (through a series of flashbacks) we find ourselves entranced by Aamir Khan's 'Rancho' and his 2 friends. Kareena Kapoor plays her usual charming character, which never seems to get old. The rest of the cast is fantastic and there are plenty of old familiar names to go along with new interesting actors.Note: All of the inventions shown in the film are actual things that have been invented in India within the last 20 years. How cool is that?!I watched this movie twice in a week, once again the following week, and then again with my teenage son. After that, I decided that I had to own it. That's how good this movie is. Watch it. You can thank me later.

3 guys in engineering college--what can go wrong?
Perhaps my favorite movie of all time, "3 Idiots" is a delight from beginning to end. There is plenty of humor, as you would expect with guys in college (it's always a group of 3 guys in Bollywood movies) and there is a great deal of emotion and weeping, so get your hankies out. Plus it has one of the most hilariously gratifying denouements in all of cinema.I could watch this one every day, I think--it made me joyously loopy over my new favorite star Aamir Khan. The songs and dances are original (throwing in plenty of soapsuds, mops, and a wonderful Hollywood movie parody as a love scene) but the other songs are hauntingly beautiful and poetic. And the males in the audience will get a kick out of the fart jokes and learning how to keep someone from urinating on your wall.Highly recommended--own it so you can see it whenever you wish.

Brilliant.
This is a brilliant Bollywood movie. A friend of mine, who had never seen it, imagined it to be Bollywood's version of the Three Stooges, so I need to say from the start, IT IS NOT! This is not a slapstick movie about stupid people. The title characters are three friends at an engineering university in India. The principal character is an unconventional and nonconforming genius who, along with his two friends, is called an idiot by the narrow-minded head of the university. He (the main character) solves problems by original thinking. The end of the movie is surprising and very satisfying. I recommend it highly. Of course there is the obligatory Bollywood music and dance, though less than in some other Indian movies.

Great movie
Great movie (if you don't mind reading subtitles)! It's so refreshing to see foreign movies because their stories are so different and not told in the way that you may see here. Don't want to give anything away so you will have to see it for yourself. We originally bought it for my mother in law (who wanted to share the story with us after seeing it with her friend) but after seeing it, we bought one for ourselves!

My first Bollywood movie
What a great way to start watching Bollywood movies! My only concern is that the rest of them will pale in comparison to this one. This movie is a comedy, a tragedy, a life lesson, and a travelogue, all wrapped into one. There are really silly parts, so if you're looking for high art, don't look to this movie. It's also a musical, but even my husband, who loves only action movies, liked this movie and didn't mind the songs. I have actually overheard him recommending this movie to his friends! As for myself, after seeing the movie the first time, I came to Amazon and downloaded 3 songs from the movie! It stands up to re-watching, and so owning it is not an excess.Note that the actors speak in, I believe, Hindi, peppered with a mix of English words. The movie is subtitled, but again, my husband, who doesn't like to read his movies, had no issue with this.

Starting to love Bollywood.
My first Bollywood films were the Dhoom series. I loved Aamir Khan in Dhoom 3 so I watched "3 Idiots" next. This was my favorite Bollywood film so far.As an Engineering graduate, I can relate to some of the themes in this film. Lots of dumb humor balanced by some serious undertones and cultural themes. Very solid film. I will be adding this to my Blu-Ray collection.

Healthy mix of comedy, tearjerker and drama. A must watch for all engineers.
This film is very poignant for those who studied engineering and delves into the social pressures of Asian families who will coerce their children into career parts not necessarily suitable for them. The film is set in modern-day India but 10 years prior, and the leading actors and actresses are reunited and the storyline switches between the present day and a decade earlier. Without spoiling the storyline, It is a healthy mix between being a tearjerker/comedy/drama and is a good use of a couple of hours to ponder whether your career is heading towards self-attainment and whether you would be satisfied with your own life goals.

It was so good we bought the DVD.Then we bought the blue ray when we updated our player.Brilliant writing coupled with outstanding actors( particularly Amir Khan) and the most tongue in cheek musical scenes ever will have you entranced. This film will take you completely by surprise. It will make you laugh and cry. This definately goes on my desert island disc's of movies. Fan-bloomin-tastic!

Superb comedy, excellent interpretation. Some of the actors are famous, but the whole gang is perfect. Spent a nice moment in family.

My new favourite film
I watched this film in film theory class and did not know what to expect. It is easy to say I was blown away. It may be cheesy at times but I have never found a better "feel good film" that perfectly combines heartbreaking drama with laugh out loud comedy that also make you think about your choices in life. I absolutely love this film and recommends it to everyone I meet. If I ever have a bad day I put this on and instantly feel better. I hope you enjoy it too!

Excellent film
I have enjoyed previous Indian films so decided to give this one a go. I watched it with my husband who had never seen a Bollywood movie and we both loved it. With a basic message of be true to yourself and live your own dreams, the whole flavour of the film was one of optimism, whilst dealing with suicide and the difficulty of facing up to who you really are and the consequences of your own actions on others. Am now looking for other similar films.
