Everybody's Talking about Jamie Paperback – November 1, 2017

I bought this in the theatre after seeing the show in London (sorry, Amazon). The show was amazing -powerful, funny, and surprisingly touching. Based on a true story about a 16-year-old who dreams of becoming a drag queen, the show focuses on Jamie's relationship with his incredibly supportive mother, his estranged father, and his hijab-wearing best friend. The score is in popular style and very accessible. Younger audience members in London are going back to see the show four and five times (so far). Buy the script, buy the cast album, and go on a journey with Jamie New, a young man who discovers that being different can't hold a candle to being loved.

My kid needed a book for a English/lit class project on understanding different life perspectives. This is a great choice. It was a little hard for her to read & she wished it was a novel instead, but the story is good. It was different than most kids picks in her very white conservative school.Maybe someday we can get a YA novel version of it. I think there are kids out there who would like that.
