Q: will this work with a 120 gallon tank or do we need to purchase 2 sets?

yes I would order 2 sets for 120 gal I have mine in a 60 gal and it was a perfect fit .. ( side note .. make sure any air stones are above the gravel .. my powerhead was sucking air through the tube until i moved it )

Q: Will this work with course sand? Or will it fill with sand?

Yes it should work , use an air pump do not use filter motor , you want the water to flow. A motor will create pressure. If you’re concerned about sand filling the tube use a weed blocking fabric. Gardeners been using this fabric to block the sunlight out but water still goes through it

Q: Will it work for a tank wifh no gravel?

Not really... The gravel weighs it down and is PART of the filtration process... That'sa THE POINT of an under gravel filter

Q: Can this be adapted/connected to a canister filter's intake?

I have a gravel filtration system with an external canister and I literally never have to change my water on a 55 gallon. I add water as needed and clean the filter maybe once a month
