Any problems resawing 8-foot 2x4’s into 1x4’s?

I cringe every time I read that someone wants to use a tool for something that is way beyond it's design parameters. The Rikon 10-3061 is a wonderful saw IF you use it for its intended use. Resawing 3 1/2" wood is defiantly not what this saw is designed for. I frequently make short cuts on hardwood with mine, such as 4/4 oak. Anything heavier, I turn to my Laguna 14 twelve. Since you are asking this question I assume that you do not have access to a large bandsaw. It can be done on a good quality 10" table saw by making two passes. Do not try this if the 2x is not perfectly straight. Bottom line, buy the proper equipment, or find a buddy that can cut it for you.

What are the dimensions of the column itself? (Width x depth; height not needed, for mounting aux. miter gauge, etc.)?

The width including mounted miter gauge is 23 1/2” X 15” deep.

What is the best machine to straighten the wood after cutting it with the band saw ? the jointer or the thicknesse planer but not table machine

A jointer. As an alternative, a tapering jig and table saw will establish a straight line provided you can cut entirely through the work. A thickness planer will not establish a straight, flat surface without the use of a jig.
