Medium Pellet Basket, Heating Source Using Wood Pellets in Your Wood Stove or Fireplace

As other reviews have mentioned, the bottom doesn't last. It severely warped and has actually disintegrated in one spot, leaving a large hole that the pellets now fall through. This occurred after ONE winter of use in my wood stove. The bottom bars need to be about twice as thick as they get red hot when the pellets burn down low enough. For what I paid, I would expect more than one season of use. I bought this to save money on heating, but if I have to buy a new one every year, then I am not saving any money.

2/23/2013As far as I can tell, there is nothing wrong with the design of this basket. It is very sturdy and stands up to the heat generated by the pellets. We have a wood stove insert and the average temperature generated by the pellets was 350 degrees, which doesn't keep the room very warm. The temperature did get up to 420 degrees, but only for a little while (need 400 to 450 degrees to keep the room comfortable for New England winters). Used the basket for about 5 hours and almost went through a 40 pound bag of pellets. I am not familiar with pellet stoves so I do not know if that is typical usage. Using a pellet basket will be good for my wife when getting to the wood pile is treacherous due to snow and ice.2/25/2013Had this product for two days now. Tonight came in from work and did not want to mess with a fire using firewood. So I filled the basket with pellets and started a fire. As was my experience the first time, the stove temperature was very low (200 to 300 degrees). At the 1.0 hour mark I moved the pellets around to try to increase the flames...not much success. At 1.5 hours I suddenly noticed that the basket was engulfed in flames as seen on the seller's video. I added pellets two more times and the stove temperature got up 550 degrees which makes the room very warm. After 4 hours I inspected the pellets again before calling it a night and there were no flames but the stove was still fairly warm and the remaining pellets were glowing red. I could have thrown some more pellets into the basket to keep the fire going if I wanted to. It seems once the stove warmed up, the pellets burned a lot hotter. I am going to increase my rating, but I am still not sure that the amount of pellets I am using is economical.

I purchased this basket the middle of last winter to burn pellets in my fireplace insert.The unit was a little pricy - but I thought that would be OK as the advertised sturdy construction would mean many seasons of use.Unfortunately, the item is not up to the job and is warped and falling apart after one-half season. Some of the bars have melted through and the pellets now spill out.A very expensive piece of iron. I emailed the seller for a refund - but they are not interested in talking to me, of course. Learm from my experience - do not purchase this item.
