Instant Power Crystal Lye Drain Opener & Soap Making, 1 lb

I purchased Instant Power Crystal Lye primarily for dealing with stubborn drains where regular liquid drain cleaners weren’t getting the results I wanted. This is pure sodium hydroxide, so it is definitely a heavy-duty product and something I handle carefully and use strictly according to the directions. For drain cleaning, I’ve been impressed with how effective it is on buildup from grease, soap, and other material that can cause slow or clogged drains. A little goes a long way, and the crystal form is convenient because I can use the amount called for rather than dealing with a large bottle of premixed cleaner. The one-pound container is also a good size for keeping around for occasional drain maintenance. Since this is concentrated lye, proper storage and handling are extremely important—I keep it securely stored and use appropriate protective equipment whenever working with it. Overall, this is a strong, effective product when used properly. It has worked well for my drain-cleaning needs, and I like having a straightforward, concentrated product rather than something heavily diluted. I would purchase it again when I need a serious drain opener.

Amazing Product, super easy to use with just using a heaping tablespoon of the product, a cup of boiling water and placing a bowl over the drain. Both sides of the double kitchen sink are clog free and the slight odor is gone. It left the drain covers shiny and clean with the added bonus of it being safe for the environment. Highly recommend because it works and the price is low. I actually didn't have to purchase 2 containers because you use a small amount, but I'm so glad I did. Lastly, be prepared for actually hearing this amazing product working with strange sounds because as soon as you pour the water it begins working on the clogs. Seriously, this product is incredible. 🇺🇸

This is by far the best drain cleaner I have ever bought. Since I started using it, I have not had to call a plumber ever again. Worth the money by far.

This works great ... I mainly use it for bad bad bad rusted Cast iron skillets that I buy (cheap).. I get a heavy duty plastic square container that will hold several skillets and then I put hot water in it and then pour this in second (make sure you pour this in the water secondly) and mix it up with a wooden stick easily and then place your skillets in the container and check them in 24 hours, if not ready then, I place them back in the solution for another 24 hours . Again, that's if they are badly coroded and rusted and then using gloves the entire time, I scrub them down with my cast iron brush I got on Amazon (gotta love Amazon) and clean them up, wash them again and season them in the oven. I haven't used it in a clogged drain as of yet but my neighbor had and she swears by this stuff. WEAR GLOVES AND EYE WEAR ALWAYS WHEN MESSING WITH THIS STUFF!! It works! Not a bad price either as I bought two of them. I will update this when I have used it for the clog in my sink and tub. Quick Shipping!

Works best with hot water. I tried it couple times and didn’t work as good as when I heated water in microwave. I used 3 bottles of draino and this cleaned it. Bottle is still full after 5 uses, will last years

This is another cheap small bottle of product is actually working. My pipe was clog in the kitchen sink. I pour this and the clog clear immediately, better than other expensive product.

That is the reason I bought it. I thought I was purchasing something appropriate for making soap. Instead, I apparently purchased a tiny chemical volcano and had the most horrifying experience I have ever had in my kitchen. There I was, ready to make my first batch of soap. Gloves on. Safety goggles? Nope. What I DID have was plastic wrap, because apparently I had decided my eyes deserved the protection equivalent of a sandwich. So I’m standing there sweating bullets, gloves on, plastic wrap wrapped around my eyes, while it is literally steaming up. 😂 I carefully measured the lye on my digital scale down to the exact gram because I was trying to do everything correctly. I measured my water, measured the lye, and finally added the lye to the water. That’s when ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. At first it bubbled a little. Fine. Normal. The container had about 4–5 inches of empty space above the water, so I thought I had plenty of room. NOPE. It suddenly turned into a VIOLENT CHEMICAL VOLCANO. It was violently boiling, spewing a horrible gray mist everywhere, producing the most horrific/noxious fumes, and somehow transforming into what looked like gray cement sludge. I genuinely thought something had gone catastrophically wrong. I’m standing there in my kitchen thinking, “Am I about to chemically gas myself in the name of homemade soap?” I immediately ventilated the area and contacted Poison Control, who confirmed that ventilating was the correct thing to do. But then I was left wondering what the heck had just settled all over my kitchen. I had to mop my kitchen floor multiple times with water because I was terrified there could be caustic residue from the mist. HOW IS THIS ADVERTISED FOR SOAPMAKING?! I understand that sodium hydroxide is inherently dangerous and that soapmaking requires proper safety precautions. I expected that. What I did NOT expect was for a product marketed literally for soap making to behave like I had accidentally opened a portal to the underworld in my kitchen. This was not a “whoops, chemistry is scary” moment. This was genuinely terrifying. If you’re going to advertise a product for soapmaking, I expect the product to be clearly identified as appropriate for that purpose and the labeling to give people enough information to understand exactly what they’re handling. I will absolutely never use this product for soapmaking again. One star because zero stars wasn’t an option.

Slow kitchen drain moved after one dose. Follow the label. It is lye, so gloves and no mixing with other cleaners. Works on a partial block. Not for a drain that is already solid.

does not work, product does not even fizz up or melt hair like in the description. Tested directly with hotwater and toilet paper in a cup. does not break down the toilet paper more than the water flow doing the breaking down.
