Two cultures collide when East meets West in SHANGHAI NOON, a wildly hilarious, stunt-filled action-adventure comedy starring the death-defying action hero Jackie Chan (AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS, SHANGHAI KNIGHTS), Owen Wilson (STARSKY & HUTCH, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS), and Lucy Liu (KILL BILL, CHARLIE'S ANGELS). Chan plays Chinese Imperial Guard Chon Wang (say it out loud) who hightails it to the wild and woolly West to rescue the beautiful kidnapped Princess Pei Pei (Liu). When he meets up with the laid-back outlaw cowboy dude Roy O'Bannon (Wilson) -- the best mismatch ever made in the rough and tumble Old West -- the two face jail, brawls, bordellos, and the vilest villains this side of the Great Wall! Spectacular stunts, outrageous irreverence, and epic vistas reign as East meets West in a battle for honor, royalty, and a fortune in gold! It's a real kick! Review: John Wayne Asian Style - Funny, it's a classic! John Wayne is the best. Review: Highly recommend. - Good movie

Very enjoyable DVD
If you like a good comedy and decent action scenes and a good western, then Shanghai Noon is your kind of movie. Owen Wilson as the grifter and wanna be robber is excellent in his role but Jackie Chan steals the show. I am not a big western fan but Shanghai Noon is definitely worth watching

A Wild Western Comedy: The Understated Charm of "Shanghai Noon"
At the turn of the century, when martial arts films and Westerns seemed worlds apart, "Shanghai Noon" appeared as a genre-bending exercise that blended the two into an unexpectedly charming and entertaining package. Starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, this 2000 comedy-action flick remains a unique offering that has aged remarkably well. Here's why: Story & Concept: The plot centers around a Chinese imperial guard (Jackie Chan) who travels to America to rescue a kidnapped princess, only to find an unlikely ally in a bumbling train robber (Owen Wilson). It's a straightforward rescue mission narrative, but what makes it intriguing is the cross-cultural comedy and the rapport between the two leads. Performances: Jackie Chan brings his renowned martial arts skills and comedic timing to the role. His action sequences are as enjoyable as his humorous interactions with other characters. Owen Wilson, with his quirky charm and laid-back demeanor, serves as the perfect foil to Chan's character. Together, they share an on-screen chemistry that elevates the film from a simple action-comedy to a memorable buddy movie. Direction & Action Sequences: Directed by Tom Dey, "Shanghai Noon" melds Eastern action aesthetics with Western themes and settings effortlessly. From bar brawls to horse chases, the action is filmed with a keen eye for both comedy and thrills. The director also ensures that the movie doesn't take itself too seriously, embracing its absurdities with open arms. Humor & Tone: The humor in "Shanghai Noon" relies heavily on the clash of cultures and the unexpected friendship between the two protagonists. The one-liners, especially from Wilson, are memorable, and the comedic situations arising from misunderstandings and cultural differences are executed with finesse. My Opinion: In my view, "Shanghai Noon" stands out as a film that successfully straddles different genres without losing its identity. While it's easy to dismiss the movie as another buddy comedy, its melding of Western and martial arts themes makes it a unique watch. The chemistry between Chan and Wilson is the icing on the cake, delivering a light-hearted and entertaining experience. Would I recommend "Shanghai Noon"? Absolutely, especially if you're a fan of either genre it represents or if you're in the mood for a comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously. It may not be a groundbreaking film, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do—entertain, and it does so in style. In summary, "Shanghai Noon" is an underrated gem that deserves more attention for its genre-bending creativity and the remarkable chemistry of its lead actors. It's a fun, action-packed film that, despite its age, still brings a smile to your face.

Here is a strange fact about this movie
This was a digital download/ purchase. the purchase was simple and it lives in my library with other movies that I have purchased. The story is well told by talented actors and produced in a very watchable way. there is a scene where Jackie Chan attaches a Horseshoe to a rope and uses it as a weapon which is the scene where western audiences earned their introduction to this type of fighting. It has since become a fixture in popular culture.
