18X Cleanser Recipe & SoapNut Laundry Review
So far, I'm very impressed. I did get about six loads with an HE washer off a bag with about 6 nuts in it. The laundry comes out clean. Nothing spectacular in the scent - it really doesn't leave one behind (which is really good for my husband, who is a law enforcement officer working at a state prison - max security - and doesn't want to go to work smelling like a flower). And the clothes weren't particularly soft or anything, but they were definitely clean, and that's what I'm using my washing machine for in the first place. The fact that it's easy on the environment, all natural, etc - certainly makes it worth my while & a great value, too. And it definitely DOES WASH your clothes - they DO GET very clean. I am probably going to get some of those wool-dryer balls soon, and maybe add some scented oil b/c I DO happen to like clothes that smell good. The one thing I wanted to note in particular was the 18x cleaning solution that comes along with this. WOW. What a great cleanser for all surfaces, etc. Even OK to use on fabrics & furniture, carpets, sinks, cabinets, countertops, etc. It might not be the best thing for glass, although it does my glass-top stove just fine. I added 1TBSP of the 18X to an old Windex squirt bottle, filled it the rest of the way up with FILTERED WATER - with a ZERO filter, the best kind you can get! And then I added a special mix of Essential Oils. It's not enough to make the cleanser greasy, or cause it to leave stains or smears or residue, but it is enough to leave a wonderful scent throughout my house whenever I use the cleanser. I added about 15-20 drops each of Essential Lane Oils (which I purchased from eBay last year): Lemon Lemongrass (a bit sweeter than regular lemon - i often use BOTH) Peppermint AND Yarrow (this one was Aroma Eden brand - but when using Yarrow, just be sure you use a brand where the Yarrow Oil itself has a slight blue tint - that's how you know it's real Yarrow Oil & not a synthetic copy). WOW - what a wonderful scent, and a great cleanser! Couldn't be happier!

really good so far for multiple uses
These were good. a little tacky. nice and in whole shells. the berries last a long time. i'm a first time buyer of soap nuts and they've treated me well so far. i've used them for shampooing, as a body wash, a face wash, laundry detergent, and dish detergent. i read that the liquid can sting your eyes. they make mine really itchy, but it's fine for me. these soap nuts are very good as laundry detergent. they don't leave a smell on my clothes. i am trying to avoid artificial scents in commercial laundry detergent. these soap nuts also work very well as dish detergent. i'm not sure if it's better than dish detergent, but it is just as good in my opinion. and as SHAMPOO, i have very, very fine, straight hair. i have had trouble with other natural shampoo recipes, trying to remove all excess oil from my hair so it doesn't look greasy all the time, which it does very easily, because my hair is really fine. I'm chinese, and my hair is so fine that if i don't at least partially blow dry it after shampooing, my hair dries like how it is as it's wet, and it looks greasy after, because it's clumpier. these soap nuts work very well for hair like that. i also like having to do fewer things in the shower, and though i don't plan on continuing my use of soap nuts as a facial cleanser for long (because my face needs more lovin than plain soap nut liquid), using this really shortens the amount of time i spend in the shower because i can just pour the liquid all over my hair and body. ALSO, my boyfriend (the account holder) has eczema and psoriasis. he's itchy all day every day. maybe not 24/7 though. anyways, he has a huge problem with shampoos and soaps drying out his scalp and skin, which makes him itch even more. he has dry, flaky skin in some areas, and other areas are just plain dry. he never uses soap or shampoo for this reason, and a regular rinse under the shower is enough for him to get clean or else he'd itch way too much from soaps and shampoos. these soap nuts work wonders for him. they don't magically vanish his dry, patchy spots, but they sure do help. his scalp is also less itchy after shampooing with this. his scalp starts getting very itchy every evening/night, because he's sensitive to having too much oil on his scalp. we found this out after i suggested he use soap nut liquid as a shampoo instead of simply rinsing with water. he has used this on his face as well. he has eczema on his face. he says it has made his skin softer. recently he did something stupid: he diluted 10% ACV with water, put it on his face, and left it on there for hours (reading miracle stories of other people leaving it on their face) and gave himself a chemical burn LOL. because he had such good results with soap nut liquid on his scalp, he decided to give it a try on his face, and it relieved him of a lot of itching and irritation. he hasn't used this for his body, yet, but i'm sure it will be great, since it was great on his scalp and face. BUT, my boyfriend always rubs on moisturizer in his scalp and his face after washing with the liquid, and paired together is how it works great on him. he does not use commercial, chemical-laden moisturizers. i make him 100% organic and natural moisturizer with high quality and nourishing ingredients. i've informed myself of how to tell higher quality ingredients from lower quality ingredients, or things to stay away from... like how most essential oils are bs, and filled with synthetics, etc. if you're interested in using essential oils in your homemade products, please research this, as it's very important. ^_^ sorry for maybe weird wording and stuff, i haven't slept in a while and thought i could write a very informative review to help anyone else with my or my boyfriend's problems.

Works like magic!!!
I have been "no poo" for 1 month now and other "no poo" methods weren't cutting it for me. I decided to try these as I've heard soap nuts aka reetha is supposed to be really great for cleaning hair naturally and does not alter the pH of your scalp. I will first say, I have hard water at home. I made the mistake of using only 5 nuts in 1 cup of tap water in the little bag it comes with at first. I boiled them with some rosemary and the scent was alright. When I strained the water after and let it cool, I used it to wash. It left my hair feeling very waxy and unclean. I was grossed out. My hair felt better BEFORE I washed and I couldn't figure out what the heck I did wrong! A few days later, I tried it again the same way. I thought maybe my hair just needed to get used to it since I'm still in the transition phase of my "no poo" journey anyway. NOPE, it was still gross after that wash too. I reached out on an online forum to find out what I was doing wrong and I got the advice that since I have hard water, I should use 10 soap nuts per 500 ml (about 2 cups) of tap water. And instead of boiling them, I should put them in a jar and stick it in the fridge to cold brew it. People have sworn to me that this method for some reason has worked much better for cleaning their hair. I don't know if cold brewing allows for more saponins to be released into the water than it does when boiling, but I tried it, and it worked!!! The smell is... something to get used to for sure. Not horrible but not great. It's very earthy. But the good thing is that it does not last in my hair once rinsed out. I washed my hair with about 1/3 of the cold brew I made and then I followed that with an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse (this is used for conditioning - 1 tablespoon in 1 cup of water) and my hair has never felt lighter, cleaner, or silkier! All the dirt and grime that I had collecting on my scalp that I just could not get rid of with other "no poo" methods have just melted away with these soap nuts. I HIGHLY recommend. They are good quality and I am able to reuse the same nuts multiple times before they run out of potency. They really do work! I will definitely be buying these again, but this bag should last me quite a long time!!

Pros and Cons
As someone trying to use more natural and eco-friendly products, I decided to give soap nuts a try for laundry and personal care. It took some trial and error to figure out an effective process, but I'm now very pleased with how the soap nuts perform. Pros: - Completely plastic-free and chemical-free. Better for the environment. - Liquid soap made from boiled nuts works great as laundry detergent. Gets clothes clean without scent. - Gentle enough to use as a body wash and shampoo. Doesn't dry out skin and hair. - A little goes a long way. The nuts can be reused to make multiple batches. - Very affordable compared to specialty natural products. Cons: - Boiling process is time-consuming. Requires monitoring water levels. - Liquid can sting if gets in eyes. Need to be careful washing hair. - Doesn't produce suds or lather. Takes adjustment if used to bubbly detergents. - May need to occasionally boost cleaning power for very dirty laundry. Overall, soap nuts have been a fantastic eco-friendly alternative to mainstream detergents and toiletries. With some trial and error in the prep process, they work extremely well for gentle but effective cleaning. I'm glad I gave them a second chance after my first fail. Highly recommend for anyone looking to go green! Hope this review helped!

I'm a Convert and you should be too!
I am a soap-nut convert. Not going to lie, I was a little skeptical when I got these; but I have been trying to weed out all our synthetic chemical and overly fragranced cleaners so these were where I landed. Let me give you some of the highlights: -Clothes come out feeling and smelling clean. (if you LOVE the smell of your Tide or whatever- don't switch, when I say they smell clean, I mean they're not actually smelly (scented)... they're fresh and have a very natural clean smell to them)) My husband works in construction and we have a toddler, so anything that gets *those* kind of messes/dirt out is excellent in my book! -Oil (body, cooking, or otherwise) is no match for the concentrated liquid. The nuts themselves required an extra washing to get clothes feeling super-clean again... but the liquid was a first-time deal. I had some gross pillowcases from an oily teen that had gone a little too long without a washing and they are back to smelling fresh and looking good. -I've used them up to 5-6 times before needing to replace them (it all depends on how dirty the clothes are in the first place though- one especially dirty week we only got 4 uses out of our nuts before they got mushy and needed to be pitched) -They are super-environmentally friendly. I don't have to worry about their affect on the water supply and when they're spent I compost them. A few tips for people considering these: You're not going to need fabric softener anymore (especially the liquid kind). I rarely need it, but for things I want extra fluffy/soft (like towels) I would recommend wool dryer balls. When you get your first bag and open it, there's going to be a bit of a fermented/vinegary smell. Don't freak out. That smell is not going to be what your clothes smell like. I keep our big bag in a glass jar (which isn't even air-tight) and don't even notice the smell until I open up the jar *and* the muslin storage bag It might seem like a lot of money for laundry- but it's not. Like I said before, I get a lot of use out of one little pouch of soap nuts- I have no guesstimate on how many soap nuts are in the big bag. BUT- I can tell you that I use 3 nuts at a time in a laundry pouch. I use that pouch 5-6 times before discarding said nuts. That for me, is a week of laundry. I'm not even 1/4 of the way through the bag after 3 months. When I was buying powder detergent (I used Biokleen powder which was an "80-load" box), I'd break open a new box every 3-4 months. They will work in cold-water washes, but I'd recommend either using nuts that had been previously used in a warm/hot water wash OR soaking the nuts for 15-20 minutes before adding clothes and starting the cycle. It helps get them softened up and ready to clean. They can go through the dryer without any issues- no staining of clothes, no harm to the nuts (or the bag)

After trying - I'm sold! Heres my review!
I had bought the 4oz size to try the first time i purchased these and after 2 months i needed more as i was running out so i ordered more since i like these so well! Id really reccommend this brand of soap nuts too, they have been great at keeping the quality level of the soap berries consistant, and they offer a pamphlet and website to help you use them as your getting started with them and making the switch. And they come with a wash bag everytime you order - no added expense! Although i have used a mesh bag that worked just as good since my kids ran off with my bag - and most of the time you also get a sample of the extreme 18x and thats really good to use on furniture and carpet cleaning. 1/2 of the extreme 18x washed all my carpets and furnitire in my 1400 sq foot home and that was me going over bord as well - see learning curve! I absolutley love soap berries and i will continue to order them as i need them 4 oz lasted me 2 months so i should get 6 months out of these that I ordered, but i have noticed that its a love it or hate it thing - theres no in between. There is a slight learning curve but not one that changes the entire game except being chemical free. I do use a bit of baking soda on heavily soiled loads like my husbands work clothes but his clothes are literally covered in mud. I have also found that sometimes they do need a bit of a boost with the baking soda but thats normally after using the same 6 soap berries multiple times - see another learning curve! On average i can get 5 loads out of 6 berries and sometimes 7 depending on what im washing and load size. I have found saving the spent soap berries and boiling them down one last time before composting makes them go further as i can get 15 more loads out of berries that are already used or use it as a cleaner around the house as well! They also really do seem to make the laundry softer and they really dont smell - they do but they dont. They smell (they have their own smell, not good or bad though) when you smell them in the bag but they dont make the laundry smell like anything - the clothes just smell like fresh clothes or cotton. So during the drying process i have added lavender essential oils - which is heavenly on my wool dryer balls - see another learning curve! So i hope this has helped anyone who has been on the fence about them!

These nuts work great in hot water
I bought these as an alternative to chemical laundry detergent, which has a lot of chemicals that cause cancer. I've been learning how to make my own cleaning products but I had yet to make my own laundry detergent or my own dish soap. Unbeknownst to me at the time that I bought these, I was not only going to be solving both those issues with these products and so much more! These nuts work great in hot water. They suggest if you're using cold water, to soak the nuts in hot water for a few minutes before throwing them in the laundry. I never found time to do this and since I wash almost all my clothes in cold water, they weren't going to work for me with this method. I'm not boiling water before each load of laundry and I waste too much water letting the tap run hot, so I decided to look for another method. This lead me to one of the greatest natural cleaning product discoveries of my life... Boil these babies. 15-20 nuts, six cups of water for 40 minutes, add a cup of water, boil for 30 minutes, add another cup of water and boil for another 30 minutes. I took an old tshirt, layed it over a strainer, and strained it, and I made 4 quarts of soap concentrate. I add about half a cup of vinegar for every quart and some essential oil for scent if I want, and that's my laundry soap. 1/4 to 1/2 a cup per load. I'm a waitress, a tom boy, I have dogs and its muddy this time of year. Everything comes out really clean. Add a little lavendar to your soap and wash your bed linens. It's heavenly. I handwash my dishes, so I put this soap in a jar, add some orange peels for scent and extra cleaning and degreasing, & put about a half cup of soap in a shallow sink of hot water, and that's what I wash my dishes in. Even my glasses come out squeaky clean. To keep the sink of water clean, I rinse my dishes as if I was going to put them in a dishwasher, then I dip my sponge in the soapy water, not the dish. People use it for their hair, all purpose cleaner, windows. This company sells a concentrate, but I like to make my own. I've made about 6 quarts of this stuff, and used maybe 50 individual soap nuts, and I am less than a quarter of the way through the bag. You could probably use this for every cleaning need in your house and only go through a 4-5 lbs a year. You can save a ton of money and have a very natural safe effective way to clean anything.

Not for laundry-GREAT for cuboards!
This is actually a fun product. My 7 year old and I had fun boiling the seeds down and making a concentrated hand soap and laundry soap. I can't say the clothes aren't exactly clean coming out of the washer, not the best on stains or grease, but it didn't get that deep down sweat smell out of the clothing (which is ironic because it got that kind of smelly mildew smell out of day old dish rags). After washing several loads with different amounts of concentrate plus a few seeds in the draw string bag, I'm not sold. I like that it's dye free and checmical free, I like that I can use it for about anything in the house and what I have I will indeed use for those purposes, but when it comes to washing things like intimates I will have to switch to Tide Free. I'd say if you want to have fun playing with these and expierementing with a safe, natural soap, this is the product to choose. I know I will have fun with the amount I have left, but can't forsee a future order at this point. I will try adding a cup of vinegar to a load and see if that makes a difference, I will update this post if it does!----After making a concentrated soap, I actually used some of the left over as a wood cleaer, wow, what amazing results! The wood cupboards, window frames, doors, door frames, just glowed. The shine is unbeatable, I've never used a product with these results, it would last a day then start to dim, these leave no residue at all and actually helped repell daily dust. I will now re-order JUST to use them as a wood soap.

Purchased in past
Never received mine, but my previous package seemed to work fine, hence the choice to reorder. Seems the the most cost effective way to also be environmentally friendly.
