The New Atkins for a New You Workbook: A Weekly Food Journal to Help You Shed Weight and Feel Great (4)

Great tool but...
This is a very handy tool for record-keeping as well as reviewing your wins and losses (pun intended). However, there are two things that I do not like about it: one is that the daily questions are the same and on days when I'm tired, I opt for one-word answers rather than using the tool as a journal the way it's meant to be. If this book ever gets re-printed, it would be very helpful if the questions changed from time to time so you actually have time to think and ponder your journey instead of making being on automatic pilot.Second, I really don't like that by week 5, I'm supposed to have lost all this weight and ready to move on to the next phase. Like most people, I have a lot more than 15 pounds to lose (double that, in fact) and my weight loss is not "melting". The idea that I should be at OWL is disconcerting because I have way more to go. If we are supposed to move to Phase 2 when we have 15 pounds to go, then the author's comments shouldn't make us feel unaccomplished because we are not there yet in week 5.Otherwise, the book is important to keep focused and to look forward to the inches lost and eventually to the end of the journey. But it doesn't happen overnight and it's best to be a turtle than expect to be done in 5 weeks. IMHO.

Good but could be better with a few changes
It's a pretty good book. I think it would work so much better if it was more of a spiral notebook that you could really use as a workbook. I find it a little difficult to write things in. They don't give you a lot of space to write your answers. I also think it would be more interesting if they varied the questions in the "Today's Journal" part to give you more incentive to write every day. That being said I really like the tips they give on each page . I look forward to reading those daily as they are different every day. It includes a handy carb counter at the end of the journal part which I find helpful. and the beginning overview of the diet was informative. I already had the other new Atkins book so this info wasn't new to me. But it was a nice review. Overall I feel it was worth buying it to really stay on track with the Atkins diet.

The facts are in. Atkins at the top after all the years of criticism.
In case you haven't heard: A cardiologist/research/professor at Stanford had his students do a long study comparing the results of all the different diets used in the last 40/50 years. (Nutri-System, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Food Addiction, etc , etc, etc. Compared everything. Which diet had most weight lost, which one kept the weight off the longest, which ones gave the best numbers...blood pressure, insulin , cholesterol, thyroid, healthiest , etc, etc. . In a Stanford video taped lecture to report his findings, this cardiologist revealed the truth in complete personal amazement that Atkins clearly came out on top. But that jives with the media over the last year that it has become apparent that fat isn't the bad guy it's been made out to be for the last 60 years, (looking at the European, "Mediteranian diet"). It's the combination of fat with sugar (& flour) that 's the killer. Atkins was the only low carb diet of them all and no one on it had heart problems. The inventor died of a heart problem but it was not fat ladened veins. It was a defect in his heart or something not diet related.

Incredibly helpful tool!
I never write product reviews even though I use them all the time to make buying decisions. This journal is absolutely fantastic and I wanted to share my excitement. If you are doing Atkins this is a hugely helpful tool that will keep you honest, help you keep track of your net carbs, and is easier to use than the app, for me anyway. I think they could work together well but for me it's easier to just grab my pen real quick and jot down what I ate versus searching in the app and logging food. I keep it in my purse so I always have it with me.

An excellent companion to "The New Atkins For a New You".
If you are reading the book "The New Atkins For A New You" then this companion workbook will be a real godsend as it will help you review the chapters and also help you practice and reinforce those behavior changes and attitudes which will help you lose weight and maintain your weight loss. Because weight loss is a journey (not a destination) it is truly essential to continue practicing those behaviors which help us lose weight once we reach our weight loss goals and this book can (and is!) definitely helpful.

It really helps!
I have tried Atkins a few times before, but I give up after a few weeks even though I'm losing and I feel better. This gives me a visual reminder of my need to stick with it. I plan to focus on filling up the book with all the steps along the way of changing my addiction to sweets, etc. When I have filled in the book with my accomplishments, I will have been transformed. I only have about 30 pounds to lose, so the workbook will last past the weight loss and into my life time maintenance.

The New Atkins for a New You Workbook
I would recommend this book (and the other book purchases I made along with it - The New Atkins for a New You and cookbook) to anyone searching to start a low-carb diet. I started 3 weeks ago and I follow the books to a T. The workbook actually helps you to keep track of the foods you eat, with a total at the end of the day...and a reminder to take your vitamins and supplements. Following the recommendations of the book and keeping a record with the workbook, I have lost inches as well as 10-15 lb! People have already started complimenting me on my results and I've only just begun. These book help to explain what Atkins really is...it's NOT what you have been hearing about...great product! Great diet!

Great!
This book has information on the diet (taken from the atkins book) as well as a food tracker with daily questions about how it's going, a place to add exercise, a list of foods/carb counts, a starting place for a picture/ending picture, and weekly questions. It's nice to have it all in one book! It would be nice to have more lines for food, but there is space to make your own line. I'd say this book is a must if you need to be more organized, and it has fun information to keep you interested eat day.

Very good book and ideal for writing down what you have ...
Very good book and ideal for writing down what you have eaten. Carb values in the back of the book. Easy to follow and good value for money.

New Atkins Workbook
I ordered it later than the other Atkins Diet books so I had passed the point where I found it useful by the time it arrived - but it is good if you buy it at the beginning.

Not worth the money.
If you're buying this book to write down all your meals, DON'T! They don't leave enough room to fit a days food. Poorly designed. Do not buy this. Save yourself some money and buy a black notebook and record in there.
