Very protective & comfortable walking boot, great after foot surgery
My son had foot surgery (Kidner procedure) 11 weeks ago. He was in a soft cast & crutches but is now starting to use this walking boot for partial weight bearing on his foot (still using crutches) for 3 weeks before wearing regular street shoes. This boot is much lighter than expected and the plastic shell offers better protection than other foam walking boots. He really likes the inflatable air chambers that he can pump to adjust the fit/pressure. After 1 day of wear, there are no tender spots (like ones you sometimes get with a pair of new shoes). Thre are two accessories that you must buy. Depending on how much swelling you have in your foot, you can either wear a tube sock, a looser sock liner (made by Aircast) or use a stockinette tube on your foot before putting on the boot. This will keep the boot clean and reduce any odors. Note, this boot is taller than my son's sneaker so I bought the EvenUp Shoe Balancer to add more height to his other leg so he can walk with a natural gait without one leg being shorter than the other. We bought the Standard model (as opposed to the Short boot) for maximum protection. We opted out of the Elite model due to the higher cost and that my son really only needs it for 3 weeks. I highly recommend this well-made boot. It is much more affordable buying on Amazon than at other medical supply stores.

The boot works as advertised.
The boot works as advertised. I wish I had it when I broke my ankle. Now I have a stress fracture in foot. It's perfect. Read the directions. Easy to use. I have 12.5 shoe. Large standard is perfect.

Works very well and helped quite a bit.
Liked:Lower price than what the doctors office charges. (which my doctor confirmed)Well made, easy to put on and take off.Light weightCame with long socks.Dislike:The valve connector at the back of the leg inside the boot seems to dig into the back of my calf. I had to put a bit of cushioning over that to be more confortable. The small narrow velcro strip on the back top of the boot came undone and I will have to reglue it to help the top back padding strip to stay in place. The push button inflator seems a bit flimsy, but it worked and never failed for me.The release valve takes a lot of pressure to release the air, and hurt my little fingers, so I didn't use it very often.I twisted my ankle and tried NOT to go to the doctor since I couldn't afford the cost with my high deductible. After trying to work in my kitchen for over 4 hours and being in extreme pain, once the boot came that same afternoon, I put the boot on, and NO MORE PAIN! It really immobilized my foot/ankle and really worked well. When I finally did go see my doctor, he was a bit put out that I purchased it on my own, but then confirmed that this boot was purchased at a really good price, and it was just what I needed to immobilize my ankle. Note, Ankle injuries need a long boot. Foot injuries need just a short boot. which was confirmed by my doctor.Hint: Purchase the Pro Care EvenUP shoe Balancer which you wear on your opposite shoe so it balances you out when you walk.

WOW! Amazing pain relief and comfort!!
Wow!! Should have gotten this sooner!! My Husband has an achilles tendon problem that he has been suffering with for a While. He stepped off a ladder wrong and the tendon was injured where it attached to the heel bone. Simply walking was miserable for him. We tried the shorter braces, ice, heat, salves, you name it. I finally convinced him to try this walking cast as it was obvious that the injury needed to be immobilized in order to heal. He didn't want to do it thinking that he wouldn't be able to do the things he needs to do, like work or anything else. Boy was he wrong. From the first time he wore the boot the pain was just GONE. He couldn't believe it. He had suffered so much and now, something so simple as putting on this walking cast and the pain was gone. We own a roofing company and he is on the go constantly. This boot has not hindered him at all. He said it is very easy and natural to walk in. It just so happens that his work boot on the other foot is the perfect height for this Aircast but he does wear the even up thingy when he wears his casual shoes, which is sold separately. That's a must. This Aircast comes with a nice long, cushy cast sock but I bought 2 more so I could keep him with a clean one everyday. This Aircast is very durable. I'm amazed at how tough it is because he really puts it through a lot and it's still great. It's been about 2 or 3 weeks that he has worn it all day but takes it off as soon as he gets home and he is enjoying much improvement in pain reduction in the heel even without the boot being on so it is healing. I'm so happy that he is no longer suffering with that injury. If he wears this Aircast out before he is fully healed you can bet that I will buying another one. It's worth every penny.

So if that doesn't sound like a five star rating it is because I switched ...
I broke my ankle and in the process of recovery was told to get an "airboot" to use instead of a cast. I wear a US size 10.5 or 11 shoe and was originally given a medium Aircast with the separate pump for filling the air pockets. The boot was well made but carrying the pump around separately was inconvenient and, when you have broken your ankle, there are plenty of inconveniences without having to worry about if you forgot the pump for your boot. You obviously need the pump to add air to the bladders that make the boot fit snugly. But you also need the pump to reduce air pressure which I found out after our plane took off and the air pads started to expand at the lower pressures of high altitudes. Even before taking off, the medium size boot did not fit properly and caused severe bruising and pain on my inside ankle and on the incision on the outside of my leg. So if that doesn't sound like a five star rating it is because I switched to a large size and got the one with the built-in pump. It fit well with the hard plastic coming around my ankle instead of right on it and the pump and pressure relief valve were very convenient. I made five separate plane trips after getting the second boot and when the bladders expanded and put too much pressure on my leg, I was able to reach down and easily release the pressure. The boot with the built in pump is also a bit more streamlined and allowed most of my pants to fit over the boot. It comes with a fairly thick,over-the-knee length sock but I would recommend getting a compression sock if you are going to make a plane trip. So I recommend you get the right size and pay the extra for the built in pump.

The Short AirSelect one is a very good option
**UPDATE** Had to return because the one I received was defective in a way that can harm people who need a walking boot. The air bladders wouldn't hold/maintain air pressure properly or consistently. Had to redo the air pumping multiple times within 3 minutes. Seems to hold air best when not walking, but released air pressure with movement. By design, air pressure is vital to make this a functioning walking boot.Original review before defect was discovered:This one's a keeper!! Had doubts on whether to try this AirSelect Walker Brace/Walking Boot or theAircast SP (Short Pneumatic) Walker Brace / Walking Boot, so I ordered both. Thank goodness, because the Pneumatic one was a worthless, poorly made and unwearable disaster!! Even the separate hand pump thing was partially crushed and wouldn't fit into both sides of the boot to inflate. If I hadn't ordered both boot styles, I'd have been without any walking boot for a stress fracture. The AirSelect Short, paired with the EvenUp riser for the other foot, is a great solution for safe ambulation in my case. After getting used to the air pumps and ball bearing air release, it's easy to deflate when I'm seated and reinflate when I need to get up; SO MUCH BETTER than the pneumatic one (with separate pump) that I used 10 years ago.Sizing: I wear a Mens 11.5 shoe and got the Large AirSelect Boot. Big toe is just inside the front edges and protected from impact. I added a piece of Velcro tape on the exterior of the boot where the bottom strap goes over the outside edge to keep the end of that strap secured to the boot (personal preference). The boot is open to the elements, so no joy in rain or snow without getting an additional boot cover. Had hoped to be able to don the boot for bathroom visits during sleep hours, but the work (and Velcro noise) of getting the thing on/off is a THING!! Good luck getting back to sleep. LOLIf needed again, I wouldn't hesitate to use this style/brand of boot.** ALSO **The EVENup Shoe Balancer size Large is perfect on my opposite foot (Mens 11.5 athletic/walking shoe); had to remove the top/thinner layer to get proper hip alignment - amazing to have ZERO back pain thanks to keeping hips level while "booted" - complete game changer!! One thing to note, I always pick my feet up when moving around; shuffling around with the EVENup could be problematic.

Easier to walk in thanks to soft walk !! Thank you!!
The soft walk has saved my back . My first boot had a hard sole that destroyed my back !!!!!!! This boot helps .

Great boot - does the job and more convenient than cast
I bought a slightly cheaper boot (medpro) before and returned it to get this one. Key differences: The strap system is so much easier. Straps are stichednon, only usign velcro to fasten, as opposed to who strap being velcro. The former makes it much easier and faster to asjust and tighten (and you wont accidnrtally lost a strap either)The boot is more fashionable. Looks hard core and high quality. Other one looked cheap. Two airpockets. I can definitely feel the increased support with my high ankle fracture at the place it needs to be.
