I got the kit and put the batteries in. I unscrewed the light end. There is a small spring at the bottom and a larger spring on the light end. So I put the batteries in with the positive end to the bottom. This is wrong , the negative goes to the bottom and positive to the light end. The batteries have to be in good condition also. I also found out that the case is aluminum or some alloy and the screw threads make the connections and they are not good connections. Even on the body of the case I had to press my voltmeter probes very hard onto the metal to get a contact. When I first got the light I could not get it to work so emailed the seller for another one. He sent , so I have two lights. About a year later I tried to use these lights and neither one worked and I put in new batteries in both and neither one worked. I could not remember which way the batteries were supposed to go. So I got my voltmeter and measured the resistance at the switch end. I had to press the probes really hard and made sure both switches were in the "on" position. Then I tried the batteries in both directions and presto both lights work. After playing around for 20 minutes and thinking both lights were bad. The screw connections are not good , there are two on each light and you have to play with these but once the light comes on everything works good. I marked with felt pen + to the light end and - to the switch end.

for how cheap this thing was if you can get a dark enough work environment it will pay for itself in the first use. I have only used it once but it works exceptionally well in low lighting. For brighter work areas you're probably better off going with something a bit more aggressive. Sunlight is the achilles heel of this product.

This was cheap and I knew what I was getting so I am giving it 4 stars. Product works. The light is severely lacking in power though, (which is expected for the price) this will not be very helpful in the daylight at all, you would have to be right up on a leak to see it. I used it at evening in my garage with no lights on and it helped me track down the leak.

these glasses and light along with the dye o purchased separately worked fantastically! i had a leak on my truck which i thought was coming from the water pump but if you've ever tried to get a good look at the water pump area on a chevy silverado its dang near impossible. after i added the dye to the cooling system and looked at the water pump area with the glasses on, i could easily see exactly where the leak was! thanks it saved me bunches of time and possibly money as well!

The pen light is very cheaply made and can be finicky to keep working. The light is fairly dim and small so you really need to scan small spaces to find what you are looking for. The glasses make it tougher to see the glow so half the time I take them off. Spend a little more on a better kit.

Use in dark place obviously. I did this out in the driveway i actually used my mechanic blanket to cover myself under the hood. The light is pretty good but the batteries that came with the light don't last very long once i used better batteries the light was brighter. Yes it did find my leak.

I used this to find a leak in my engine. I was able to determine that my oil pump was leaking instead of the head gasket. This saved me a good deal of money because I was able to tell the mechanic what to do instead of having him spend hours checking the engine.

Worked phenomenally. Found my leak on a coated car within minutes, and solved it with merely a clamp.

Useless item. the spectrum of UV light isnt right so it doesn't illuminate dye. DO NOT BUY

I waited until it got dark outside. Put on the glasses and the light easily showed me where the leak was in my AC system. Recommend.

Light was not as bright as claimed. Supplied batteries were "spent' on receipt and light improved with new Duracell. It will do the job in dim light - no chance in daylight. Should have read previous reviews first.
