Good Product Overall
I am a young widow with children at home. My father, also widowed, just purchased a house for us all to live in. His work has him traveling sometimes months at a time. I'm often on my own when trying to figure out repairs. While I am generally handy, I'm no mechanic or technician. The Old: When we moved into the new house, the bathroom fan sounded like it was screaming for death to arrive as soon as possible. We initially thought we might need to oil the fan blade assembly where it inserts into the motor or something. Alas, it was not meant to be. The fan had broken off and was kind of trying to turn when the motor was on. I didn't want to have to replace the box in the wall and have to figure out how to hook up the new unit to the ducting. Again, I'm handy but I know my limits. We elected to just replace the motor assembly instead. The previous owners didn't cover it when they had the place repainted, so the model number was super hard to find. The New: When I finally received new new motor assembly, I tried to install it. Alas, that was not meant to be yet either! Everything fit perfectly...except the ground wire was too short. I knew enough to know I couldn't finish the install without the ground wire. The pigtails I purchased separately from Amazon did not have the right size eyelet (I hope that's the right word) to attach it to the unit. I went to Home Depot to find a replacement, and they didn't have one either. The ground wire is a smaller gauge and the eyelets that would have possibly fit on the unit were meant for larger gauge wires. Thankfully, an associate was able to extend the length of the wire by cutting the original in half and splicing a small length of new wire between the two halves. Hopefully, I haven't confused you. The newly adjusted ground wire was plenty long enough to reach the spot it needed to go. The actual install, once everything was adjusted, was super easy. It just took awhile to get there. The only other thing I have had a hard time with is the cover for the unit. The previous motor assembly had a long screw coming out of it that the cover screwed onto. This one has a hole in approximately the same place but no screw. I don't know if I can safely put another screw in that spot so the fan currently has no cover. (Feel free to tell me if you know. I haven't found a replacement cover the correct size and configuration to fit. Who knew finding a cover for a bathroom fan would be so challenging?Overall, I'm happy with the product. The missing star is due to the drama with the short ground wire. Hope this novel...I mean review helps!

Replaced my old model, #23405 and JA2CO28G
I had an old model to replace, #23405 and JA2CO28G, with the housing that is in the ceiling stamped with model 8832N -8833N 'A' UNIT FOR USE WITH model 8832N or 8833N "B" unit. This looked close so I took the risk and it fit perfectly. Bolt hole pattern is 6-1/2", and the fan is 2" tall by 5-3/4" diameter. Motor spins same direction as the old one, which is CW (if you are holding the motor as it will be installed in ceiling). Only 4 stars due to the following. It is a cheaper gauge of tin for the support causing louder vibrations when running, but what do you expect after 40-50 years? My old one has rubber "bumpers" on the back which I will transfer. Secondly there is no stud to attach the grate cover but there is a hole so easy fix of transferring old stud or all thread. Lastly the ground wire is not attached to anything but easy fix either use the screw from the old housing and attach it to the housing of the new or just put it on one of the screws that attach the housing to the unit. Hope this helps!

Fast service, excellent technical support, great price, had to do some messing with it to fit my older fan housing
I could not believe the great price and I was not disappointed. It was shipped to me very quickly. I needed a little tech support and I just called the number and got a person right off.The only problem I had was that my older 1960 fan housing this newer motor required some tearing apart my old fan and transferring some parts. That was some problem for me (a psychologist) but I do know how to quickly recognize a mechanical problem and am confident with tools. For another person - it would have been a real problem and you would have had to call a maintenance person in and even then they may have had to charge you an arm and a leg to fix it.When I called their tech support, he quickly acknowledged the change (even though they are the same model) and even said that they do have some that fit the older housing without modification - but for twice the cost!!! I would suggest that you call the company before you get it to see if this is an easy fix. Even at twice the price it would be better than having to call a maintenance guy and pay him for modifications and installation. But for me - well I almost bought another one (knowing I'd have to modify it) as I have 3 fans in my office building.P.S. I'll quickly add a real disappointment - This motor was made in China while my older one was made in the USA. Another manufacturing job that has disappeared from America. And I bet this one won't last 50 years like the USA one did.

worked but required some modding
Thought I was stuck replacing my 30 year old vent unit due to bearing rumble in the fan motor. The local electrical shop said they couldn't find a replacement. Was more than willing to gamble on this as a replacement when I saw it. As others mention, the vibration isolation is not as good on this as it was in the 30 year old model so it's a little louder, but great compared to the bearing noiseI've been living with for years! My old unit had a stud that held the grill in place where this unit only has a hole. The clearance under the bracket made it difficult to find a bolt (used a panhead & filed it down) that would clear the motor. It touches the motor and transfers Vibrations to the grill. I think sometime when I feel like messing with it I'll put a NutCert in the bracket and lock tight a stud into it, but for now it's fine and I didn't have to crawl around in the attic insulation to fix it!(dropped it to 4 stars for the way they cheapened the mounting compared to the original, but I AM happy with the net result)

Exact replacement
Was pleased to find exact replacement. The fan that was there was old (estimate at least 15-20 years) and I really didn't expect to find an exact replacement. It was delivered quickly, 3 screws to install, plug in, and now the fan works again and is very quiet. It was pretty pricey, but I am very glad to have it. I was able to utilize the existing housing and electrical connections. :)
