Review: Good - This is the original novelization of The Empire Strikes Back, which was originally published around the time the movie was released. It was re-released including a new hardcover version (which is this version) in the late 1990s when George Lucas was working on the special editions of the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. This has an introduction by Lucas that talks about the movie and some of the issues surrounding getting it made after the success of Star Wars. This is a pretty straightforward novelization of the movie. It does not change the overall story at all, it just has some dialogue changes here and there. So, if you are a fan of the movie, this is worth reading. It is very short, much shorter than the novelizations of the prequel and sequel trilogy movies, and can easily be finished in a day or two.

Star Wars ESB..Collecting knowledge through reading...
Since most reviews are about the item itself I would first like to say that collecting SW merchandise for close to 30 yeras is my top priority. Those of you who also collect will find that for a short but good story book adventure for part V "The Empire Strikes Back", still brings the magic from Sir George Lucas to the small literature side of Sci-Fi adventure for all ages. I am not only saying this because I love the Star Wars Saga, but to be able to see that when kids re-inact the story means that they have read it, processed it and found it fun enough to act it. Those of you growing up in the 70's know what I mean. Now this new generation will never forget the experiance of being able to read a great sci-fi movie and sit back and say !!!WOW!!! this is great and can't wait for the next book to read!! "May The Force Be With Us All"

Everybody use a blue laser sword!
This is a great book for anyone who is a Star Wars fanatic. While there are some differences in character descriptions in this book it is mostly unimportant. You get a much better feeling of what emotions the characters are going through during different scenes. You also get a much better idea of the lessons Yoda puts Luke through, as well as a better feel of time passing during the relationship. The movie always made it seem that a couple days go by, but the book somewhat shows more time passing. I was a little dissapointed with the ending of the book. It may just be me but it felt less intense than the rest of the writing. However, Darth Vader's emotional attack on Luke is explained beautifully. Anyone who wishes to feel a more detailed example of how much emotion and manipulation is involved towards Luke from both Yoda and Vader should definitely pick up this book

Nice little take on the second Star Wars film
I read this book a long time ago when I was still in elementary school and enjoyed every moment. There are some changes but it didn't detract from the overall experience. It was a short, quick read and I read most of it in one night. Thank you for an interesting novelization, Mr. Glut. Normally I don't like movie novelizations but this is one of the rare exceptions. If you're a Star Wars fan and you want to read a novelization, try this.

OK, annoying edit glitch
Book is ok. Has an annoying editing flaw in that it cuts to different characters or locals but not marked by a chapter break nor blank line. One minute you're reading about Luke studying with Yoda, then the next paragraph is Han in the asteroid belt, and 2 paragraphs later you're reading about Vader. Might be a flaw in how it was ported to electronic format, but it's annoying. Writing generally was OK. Not a lot of revelation not already found in the movies. Spoiler alert: Yoda is not green in the book!

Great Film, Great(er) Novel!
We've all seen the film... The fifth episode in the Star Wars universe contains tons of details and surprises, and this book is certainly no exception! It's written to immerse the reader into a galaxy far, far away. Great writing interacts with exceptional character development to create a very memorable novelization of "The Empire Strikes Back." Very organized and complete! The book followed along very well to the film as well. Very good series of books! From one Star Wars fan to another, I definitely recommend to get the whole series for the best enjoyment possible!
