The first one I received, the stem was shattered. So I got a replacement and it arrived perfectly even with no padding on the inside of the box. So be careful when opening it. My wife runs her own lab at the university and uses stuff like this for her work as a biologist. anyway, she claims that this bottle does do what it is supposed to do and that the tolerance of the seal around the bottle neck and stopper is good. Not sure how much she will use it but she was glad to get it anyway. Says it looks proffesional enough to use for her research!

Aside from being made from low thermal expansion glass (i.e. boro) the most important part of a specific gravity bottle is the fit of the ground glass stopper/capillary tube. I can't see any play with the stopper at all. So the volume is constant and it is going to be an accurate instrument. If you can use a 10mm bottle for your measurement, this is a nice one and very inexpensive.

This is a great little mini flat bottom flask. It is truly tiny, it looks like something from a dollhouse! Despite this, though, it is of top notch qulaity. The glass is relatively thick and very strong. The glass capping piece is also of good quality. This is such a small flask that it won't be suitable for many people, but for those who need a tiny flat bottom flask, this one will fulfill your expectations just as it did mine.

Density of distilled water came out to 0.95g/mL so the volume of this device is slightly off. if you purchase this pycnometer you will need to find it true volume by dividing the weight of pure H2O by 1g/mL and this will yield the true volume of the device for use in future measurements.
