Great quality, average performance
This flash drive performs very average to maybe slightly above average in terms of speed. The build quality is extremely nice and solid metal, I prefer these drives for this reason alone. Because they are metal and very small, they do get extremely hot to a point where I cannot touch it without burning myself. They appear reliable so far, I've been using one of these drives for my SMB server which is on 24/7 and loads PlayStation games so it's not exactly an easy life either. I recommend these if you have the means but overall any other cheaper drive will do just as good.

Fast, reliable and portable - my go-everywhere flash drive
This flash drive was purchased to replace my older yet still reliable 16GB SanDisk USB 2.0 flash drive. This new one was absolutely the right choice for several reasons. The metal housing is very durable; it fits on my keychain thanks to the loop on the end; the size is not too large or small; file read and write speeds are incredibly fast; the PrivateAccess software keeps my important files safe and encrypted; the price is very reasonable for the large capacity. One note is the metal housing can get warm when connected for an extended period of time. One simply cannot go wrong with this well-designed, fast, reliable and useful flash drive.

Sleek Design with Plenty of Storage
Sleek Design with Plenty of Storage This SanDisk Ultra Luxe 256GB USB 3.1 drive has been a solid performer for me. The all-metal casing feels sturdy and has a nice weight in hand, so it doesn’t come across as flimsy like some plastic drives. Its compact size makes it easy to keep on a keychain or in a laptop bag, and I appreciate that it doesn’t feel bulky even though it packs a generous 256GB of storage. In use, transfer speeds have been consistently fast for everyday tasks like moving videos, photos, and large documents. While it won’t quite match an SSD, for a flash drive it’s quick and reliable. The fact that it’s USB 3.1 means it works great on modern laptops, but it’s also backward compatible with older USB ports, which I’ve tested on a few different machines without any issues. One thing to be mindful of is that the all-metal design can get a little warm during prolonged transfers, but nothing concerning. The drive also doesn’t have a protective cap, so if you’re prone to tossing it into dusty pockets or bags, you may want to attach it to a keychain loop for better protection. Bottom line: A reliable, fast, and well-built USB drive with plenty of space. Ideal if you want something compact and stylish that can still handle larger files without slowing down.

It’s good but I’m not completely sold
Out of the box the drive is impressive in its form but immediately upon install a couple of things were concerning. In the minimal instruction sheet they make a big deal about using their protection software. On OS X 10.15.1 the program is uninstallable. It is completely safe to mount it without the software and fairly quick when copying media files. It is VERY hot to the touch. I use in in a studio to transfer music files and it does the work but it is tiny and not something I would attempt to put on a keychain, especially as there is not a cover for the input. So....it does a decent job of file transfers but I’d never leave it in a USB port as I’ve done with other thumb drives. This makes it less than ideal for my uses but not enough to rule it out. It’s just a pain in the neck mounting and unmounting the thing. From a functional standpoint the heat concerns me. The drive is hot enough to be concerning as to it’s longevity, something that can lead to serious issues later on. And it’s a bit disconcerting when it makes its software sound like a dealbreaker if not installed. It isn’t. For my use it’s a 3.5 trending towards a 4.0 as it works. It does leave room for stability concerns. Heat is a major problem in every other electronic device I am familiar with beyond a few 1990’s power amps. But it is getting the job done, just not as I would prefer it.

Ideal for a key chain
The first thing that stood out to me was how small this flash drive is. It is about 1 1/2 inches long by 1/2 inch wide by 3/16 inches thick. It is very tiny and could be easily lost if a person isn't careful. I also found it a little difficult inserting and removing the flash drive due to it's size. When I ran the benchmark tests on the drive I measured read speeds of 157.38 MB/s and write speeds of 23.02 MB/s with the drive plugged into a USB 3.0 slot. Not shabby at all. I was a little concerned about the comments about the drive running hot on some of the reviews. I copied 20 GB of files to the drive at one setting and the drive was barely warm. It certainly wasn't hot as others had described it. The drive comes with a 5 year warranty so don't forget to go to the SanDisk website and register your drive. Overall it is a nice little flash drive and based upon my experience I would certainly purchase it again. I think most people would be very pleased with this flash drive.

Sturdy and nice size
These work well. Very sturdy, small but not too small.

Benchmark attached. Works great for me.
I've been largely satisfied with SanDisk products over the last 20 years, and this drive lives up to expectations. I like this formfactor, and the capacity & price were both right for me. One of the reasons the casing is metal on drives like this is to act as a heatsink for internal components; it is normal for this to get warm or hot to the touch in my experience. I would rather the heat dissipate as designed than have the chips fail. SanDisk also honors the 5-year warranty on this, and I have no doubt they will follow through as they have the few other times I have had to file a claim with them. I did a large file copy test, and yes, the initial transfer speeds were fast, but it slowed way down as the job progressed. However, the job still finished with no problems. It still transferred ~100GB in an hour or so. I then let the drive cool and performed a speed test from a USB 3.1 gen2 port, and it surpassed expectations. Benchmark results from a USB 3.0 port were also great.

Works well, but gets toasty.
The 256 GB flash drive works as expected and offers reliable storage in a compact metal design. However, the metal casing tends to get noticeably hot during extended read/write operations. A simple workaround is attaching something metal (paperclip, nail cutter) to act as a heat sink, which effectively cools it down. Overall, it's functional and well-made, but the heat issue is worth noting. Heat is a small issue, I recommend it especially if the price is right.

Good product
As always, high-quality product from SanDisk. I was a loyal customer of this brand for many, many years. Maybe there is something like... I don't remember if I had it with the previous ones, but this one... It does get warmish, but not hot, when you write stuff on it. And when I work on it from my computer and when I press SAVE, it takes a few seconds... Computer freezes for a few seconds when it saves it. So if I have to press SAVE often enough, it can be quite inconvenient. So I sometimes just choose to work on files saved on my computer and then save the final files onto the USB, instead of working with the files directly on the USB itself. Other than that, it's a high-quality product, and I'm quite happy.
