what is the specific bulb this unit takes?

This unit takes the GU10 base type bulb, 120 V. It comes with bulbs, but they were the warm color which is more of a yellow tint. I purchased new bulbs that were daylight and much whiter and worked perfectly. Also these bulbs don't screw in; be sure to use the small suction type tool that comes with the unit to replace the bulbs and follow the instructions that came with the range hood as it explains in detail how.

What is the depth of the top part that attaches to the cabinet?

The BCSQ130SS is designed to fit under a standard 12" deep cabinet. the total depth of the cabinet, from the 'nose' to the back, is 19-5/8".
