Awesome chain for an even more awesome price
I have had nothing but good luck with this chain. I've run them with Tiagra, Sora and Alevio 8-speed systems. The chain is smooth, quiet, and shifts very precisely. One of the really nice things about the Z-72 is that it even comes with the "missing link" master instead of having to splice it with your chain tool or buying the missing link separately which can be quite pricey. This chain is very well-made and I was talking to a guy who does bicycle mechanics training and he showed me that the quality of the Z-72 is actually better than other name brands such as SRAM. His method entails taking a new chain and seeing how much sideways deflection there is in it. As any chain wears and "stretches" this sideways deflection increases. The less deflection a chain has when it is new the better it will shift (to a certain extent as you need a certain amount in order for the chain to cross back and forth.) This chain fairs better than many name brands in this test. It is also very low-priced. It's so low-priced that you can afford to run two chains on every bike and have one soaking in an oil bath and being cleaned up while you run the other one. I like to soak, drip-dry over the oil, and then towel off the chain to dry so it is like the factory-oiled chain it was when it was new. Every time I have a dry/dusty/muddy/rainy ride I will swap out the clean chain and start the process over. This process really increases chain life and keeps it quiet and performing well for many miles. Get a couple of these for your bike -they are well worth the few dollars they cost. I really love them.

Cheap,Easy,Good!
First I picked this chain due to the great price, Second was the ease of putting on bike with the q-link it just takes a couple of minutes to put on bike. Third, many of the reviews cite that the chain works well for them. Frankly I have not had the chain long enough to know, however I can promise you that out of the box it is well luped, in fact almost too thick but hey the bike functions fine. If I see that this chain wear quickly I will revise my rating but at this price if the chain lasts 600-700 miles I break even, longer wear would make it the best value, I am suspect if you were racing you might want to seek out another chain but for commuting I think this chain will be fine. 11/1/2016 visited with a friend whose bike I had installed one of these chains she is about 5-8 150 lbs and after inspecting the chain my educated guess is she could get 1000-1200 miles out of this chain. This bike is strictly used for commuting.

A basic chain for a recreational bicyclist.
Easy to install and good quality. Honestly I couldn't really tell that it was silver and brown. The whole thing looked silver to me. Regardless, this thing was a cinch to install. After removing your old chain, just count the number of links on it. Then count the same number of links on this new chain and subtract one. That is where you'll connect the master link that comes with the chain. Once you've got your two master link pieces on and the chain ready to thread, give it one more count just to be sure. I went ahead and ordered a few spare master links just in case of future breakage and a compact chain breaker tool to pop out a broken link pin. Bottom line: It's a basic chain. If you're not a bike snob, then this chain works great for a 21-speed mountain bike that's almost 20 years old.

Excellent chain, and easy to install
The largest front cog on my 700c 24-speed hyrbrid bicycle is 48 teeth , and the largest rear cog is 34 teeth . I've combined these with a Shimano Acera M360 and this chain, and I get really smooth shifting out of the setup. The KMC Z-72 chain fits my bike perfectly, straight out of the box, without removing any links. If it were any shorter, it wouldn't fit at all. So if your bicycle has larger cogs than mine, find a longer chain. Each chain includes a master link (they call it a "missing link"), which is simple to install without any special tools -- just simultaneously apply pressure on the brakes and the pedals to pull the chain tight. You can also remove the master link with just your hands, but using the proper removal tool is easier and much less likely to damage the link. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to do that. As for durability, these chains are above average. I've gone through a few, and each one has given me over 2000 miles of use.

Quality Product at an Affordable Price.
I put my chains through all sorts of abuse (a triple crankset arrangement will do that) and I have to say this chain held up like a champ. More than 2000 miles of intense climbing in the Los Angeles National Forest and daily commuting rain or shine did not deter this chain until its final days. Bought a replacement when the previous one had clearly stretched too much. Installation is pretty straightforward and can be done by a novice with enough patience, though a chain breaker helps a lot (for those not sure how to replace a chain, simply hold the two chains side to side and align the links keeping in mind the stretch of the old chain). While the 8 speed drivetrain systems may be clunky, the parts are dirt cheap, which is a great thing for commute bikes and those who just don't care and want to keep things economical.
