Worth the Price
I had used an xm2go portable unit in the past with an added external antenna. It was first generation equipment and it didn't work unless the unit and the antenna were fixed in location, hence no portability for walking. It just didn't work when I tried to use the service while I was out moving around. Fast forward to newer generation equipment and you get a reasonably priced headset/antenna with removable battery that works just like a charm with the equally reasonably priced Sportscaster. Now you can really be portable. I give this an enthusiastic two thumbs up.

Not bad but simple mods make it much better!
I really don't know if anyone will read this review considering it is for a satellite radio tuner that is several years old, on a product designed specifically for that tuner, but seeing this headset kit for sale at my local Walmart for $15, I decided to give it a try. What this kit does, is give you the option to turn your Sportscaster XM tuner into a portable music player. I purchased this kit specifically for working outside while working in the yard 2-3 hours each week. The key to getting the most of this kit is to make sure you are outside and have an unobstructed view of the sky. This tuner works great outdoors, has little if any signal indoors and is more sensitive to blocked views of the sky than with the car kit. While I love this tuner and it has performed well, I have mixed feelings about this portable kit. While all off the parts and pieces feel sturdy, the first thing that I really disliked was how easy it was to remove the battery. While the tuner is mounted on it's belt clip, the battery can pop off if you hit the side of an object while wearing it. A simple snap or locking latch to ensure the battery wont pop off while I'm outside working would give me a bit more peace of mind. The charging unit is solid and it is identical to the unit that comes with the home kit for this particular tuner. The belt clip is secure on just about any type of clothing. I've used it with a belt, sweats, shorts, etc, and it works good and the tuner has yet to pop off. Be careful with the battery, though as it can be removed even with the tuner snapped into the belt clip. The headphones contain the antenna and are required to be plugged into the tuner in order for it to function. When I first started using the headphones I thought the audio quality was decent. The bass sounded fine but they could use a bit more treble. I do find the volume slider essential to using these headphones as you can control the audio output from the tuner itself but the slider switch is much more convenient than digging into the tuner menus. While everyone is designed differently, I did find the headphones nearly unbearable to wear after about 30 minutes. I tried to adjust the height of the ear phones, as well as angle, depth etc., but I think the ear phones, an inner-ear design have such a wide diameter that they feel like they are pressing too hard into the inner ear. What I now do while wearing this setup (and I'm sure I probably look a bit strange in doing so, is to only plug in the antenna portion of the double plug of the headphones and use a decent pair of aftermarket noise-cancelling earphones in the headphone jack of the XM tuner. The actual antenna/headphone combo is just worn around my neck and I use a twist tie to keep my own earphones and the tuner antenna headphones cables together.I was a bit worried that without a slider, my own headphones wouldn't put out enough volume for me to use the tuner but I found that with the audio output turned up to about 80%, the earphones are more than adequate to listen to music while mowing. Sure it is a pain to have to adjust the volume with the tuner menu itself but I was blown away by the audio quality of the tuner and I feel that it matches my Zune and iPod touch just fine.Your other option for listing to portable satellite radio would be to buy a portable tuner (I think pioneer made one at one time?) that is designed to be mobile withot an additional kit. Like I said, I saw the Sportscaster kit as at least worth a try as I sometimes have trouble justifying my XM bill when it shows up every three months since previously I only used it in my car.So, why only three stars?1. Well, the headphones for starters. It was almost like they were designed and never actually tested on humans for comfort and/or audio quality.2. The battery's ease of removal. Sometimes can be a pain and will pop off if not careful.3. The antennas sensitivity to going out, even under simple foliage such as a large tree and losing signal. As for the battery itself, I am able to get between 3-4 hours per charge and it tends to charge quickly. All in all I'm happy with the purchase but thought the design was lacking a bit after I started using it.

poor quality but love the sportscaster
I have always liked my Sportscaster but hate the durability of the headset earphones. I have now bought SIX replacement earphone sets as the do not last. I love XM but hate it that they do not pay much attention to customer inquirys or complaints. I see why this unit is no longer available. But I have it and basically like it.

Junky XM Sportscaster Headphones
When it works, this is a nice low-end portable XM unit. The major drawback is the heaphones. The cable that plugs into the Sportscaster receiver is not very sturdy. Eventually the wires inside the cable break, and the headphones won't work anymore. The Sportscaster will just display "Check Antenna". Since the headphones have the XM antenna inside, you can't just replace them with somethng else. When my first set of these headphones stopped working, the company replaced them under warranty. Now that the second set has stopped working, I gave up and purchased a different XM receiver rather than invest any more money in this poorly designed product.

Sportscaster Headset Review
This is probably the 4th Sportscaster headset that I have ordered. The previous 3 just quit working after a few months each. They are also very uncomfortable. I would buy another headset design if it were available. I like my XM Receiver but the headphones are clearly the weak link!
