A quality microwave I am very impressed
I am very impressed, it looks great, very modern and compact, I was worried the dials would be a problem having read some reviews, but I am pleased to say they are perfect, yes compared to the old Asda one it has replaced the dials are not as loose to turn but this is not a problem if anything it gives it a sense of quality and precision, it is quiet in operation and cooks well, I choose the Toshiba name having been pleased with both Tv’s and computers over the years, it is a quality name and on first impression their microwave is quality too 🙂👍

Compact design but fits a dinner plate
I purchased this Toshiba microwave to replace my old one which the paint was peeling of inside the microwave,it was worring me as that crumbling paint dropped on the food and after that I did not use the microwave again, why do they paint microwaves knowing that the paint will come off and very nasty if the paint drops onto food which would be harmful, this problem has happened to every microwave i have got, this new Toshiba microwave seems good and very easy to use,I can fit a large dinner plate in there,I'm following there instructions on cleaning the microwave, and keep fingers crossed that this will last longer,

Cheap, but has defects. However Customer Relations response very helpful.
ORIGINAL REPORT: Low price, but after 3 years shows signs of rust and peeling paint finish. When the door is shut it fires the 'open' button across the floor with some considerable velocity. Reflects the purchase price. UPDATE: Toshiba have been generous in offering us a replacement. However, I told Wendy of Toshiba's customer relations I had already purchased an alternative microwave, so did not need another. Despite this, after several attempts to refuse the replacement I gave in and a replacement was sent. I have given this to a friend. I shall check whether the release knob does not fly off, and shall report back if able. As to the other defects listed above, we shall need to wait for 3 yrs or more to assess the quality. Very good customer service response, though.

On Offer For Less Than 60 Quid
My elderly parents carers put a meal in their microwave which had a tinfoil base. I can't grumble since the carers are lovely to my folks but sometimes there's is a bit of cultural difference as maybe they haven't experienced a microwave in the past, (bless 'em), so no biggy. I had to get a new one and this was on offer for less than £60. What's great about it is it's simple. No confusing microprocessor and 1001 different settings, it's the timeless design of a power knob and a timer knob. Mom and Dad had some nice hot meals since Sunday when it came and the carers haven't managed to blow this one up yet. *EDIT** It's been 8 months since I purchased this, and it is still foolproof for my mom and dads carers and still delivering the goods in a couple of twists and button presses. So simple but does the job it was designed for admirably. Back in the early 80's when the microwave craze really took hold Toshiba was THE biggest name in MW ovens. Don't get me wrong I doubt they are made in Japan now, but Japanese manufacturers do outsource to Indonesia China Taiwan etc. I will trust any Japanese manufacturer to have the same standards and QC as their own domestically produced items. Ask me how I know? I have bought quite a few Japanese brand guitars over the years (basses actually) Yamaha, Ibanez etc, and the budget models made in cheaper countries are every bit as good in terms of quality as the very much higher priced Japanese manufactured guitars. That is because such names cannot be sullied with poor workmanship, so while offering premium products at premium prices (if made in Japan) they ensure that quality conforms to their own exacting standards where ever it's produced. I suspect this is exactly the same for Toshiba, as the oven I bough for my parents has taken a hammering every day since it was bought, far more that a normal MW would have to as it's now the only thing that heats their food (had to cut off the gas stove supply a couple of years ago for safety as mom has dementia). ALl our kids have now left home, so when the time comes I'm going to remove the monster of a microwave we have and get one of these. Ver, very happy with the product still.

Nicely compact but probably unsuitable for those with hand/eye problems
The TOSHIBA 20 Liter 800W Manual Control Solo Small Microwave, Compact with 5 Power Level is nearly two months old now so review time. The microwave is compact and takes up less space then previous ones i bought did. If you look at the measurements, its only a centimetre here or there but that does make a big difference if you are space limited. This was one of the requirements I was looking for. It is a manual microwave which makes it simple to use. It heats up items well and so far functions well. It takes the microwave dishes I use. So far, the largest used is the sistema round microwave container 1.3 lits. L 233 mm x H 80 mm x W 210 mm. Cons It has difficulty in maintaining the plate rotation when popping microwave popcorn bags as they keep getting caught on the interior. You can pop the bags in this microwave but definitely stay aware. As said in previous reviews, the labelling for the timer is very odd in the font and colouring they chose and so can be difficult to see. In addition, the knob handle for the timer is difficult to grasp as it is narrower than on other models in my opinion. I use a small cloth or kitchen paper to help turn it sometimes.
