It looks like appliance rather than a trashcan. It is so convenient, too. The extra products, the deodorizer and special bags are an extravagance but make life so much simpler. It's hard to believe but I've actually invited friends over to see the new addition to my kitchen --- it's gotten rave reviews! The lid opening is beyond smooth. Having a place for both trash and recyclables is handy. The price is high but I'm worth it and I'm confident that the quality and sturdiness of the product makes it likely to last for a very long time.

I purchased the dual trash/recycle can, 16 gallons. It arrived in perfect condition and was wrapped excellently. I’ve only had it for a week, and I would prefer to give a review in six months after I actually have time to use it, but as a one week review I can tell you this – I suggest purchasing the bags that were made to fit the bins, as they are Square shaped instead of rectangular. If you use store-bought bags, you’ll have to work to fit the top edge of the bag down around the rim of the liner bin. Secondly, because the circumference of the inside bin is square you must make sure your items get in the bag – don’t toss them in because you might miss the bag. I don’t care for the back compartment for the bags as it is kind of a pain in the neck to get to, but it’s not the end of the world. These bins don’t hold as much as my old simple human can, therefore, I am changing my trash much more frequently. Heads up – there is no liner bin for the trash side of the can - there is only a removable bin for the recycling items. We fill our recycling items quickly, and even though we crush them down it really fills fast. This blue liner bin has a nice handle to help lift itself out of the can, and it washes easily. The foot pedal is nice and long so you don’t have to stand directly in front of the can too push on it with your foot. It closes so softly (which I’m not used to) that you don’t hear it and I keep catching myself turning back to see if it actually closed. Makes me feel foolish! I do suggest keeping the can an inch or two away from the wall. I tried flush against the wall but then the lid doesn’t automatically close every time. The finish on the outside of the can is very nice and so far I have had no smudges.Other than the individual bins not holding as much refuse than my old trash can I have no complaints – and that is not really a complaint because the size was stated in the description.It looks sharp, works as described, I think it’s a little pricey, but if it lasts as long as my old one (nine years and still going) then it’s worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this far. We will see what happens in six weeks, six months, or longer.

Yes, very expensive...BUT...so worth it! It's really amazing and it's the Lamborghini of all trash cans! You won't believe it. Super stylish and makes it a breeze. I am very happy with purchase. Turns such a mundane job of throwing away garbage into a plush experience as crazy as it sounds. But it really does that. Makes recycling easy breezy. Everyone in the household talks about how cool it is. The separate departments are incredible. I like the H trash bags to fit in the regular trash side as well. Slim and square fit that is elongated. No more bulky and awkward trash bags that you struggle with to pull out of the bin. Also I noticed when I took the bag to the outside trash collector bin, these bags will fit a lot more because it slides right down and uses all the room in the larger outdoor bin. No bulky sides to the bags that take up space and get hung up and the slim design bags actually holds a lot while making space saving work! This is a great creation - well thought out. Also, I canceled the recycling liner bags since I really didn't need them - our trash pick up wants it all to be loose and it's easy to carry out the blue side bucket to the garbage bin. But why I am saying this is because the customer service of Simplehuman was fantastic on cancelling my order! Super nice and polite. So this is an awesome company!

Despite the price for a lowly garbage can, I read the reviews and decided to take the plunge - so glad I did!!Pros: fits at end of counter island perfectly, no finger prints, scratches, etc after 2 weeks of use, came without dents and in full working order, love the low profile lid as it keeps a big Newfoundland dog from nosing into the garbage, slow closing lid is nice and there is no slamming noise with either opening or closing, smaller capacity than I envisioned but in no way a deal breaker as the garbage &/or recycle just get taken out one day earlier - cost of 20 feet and a bag..., appreciate the built in pocket for the bags - convenience I didn't even consider until this can, and lastly - it looks fantastic!Cons: as another review said - non-Simplehuman bags fit but the knot to keep them on does show - I have tried multiple ways to use other bags and the engineers for all the pros also created a pro for the company - best if using SH bags - I did then also splurge for a box of the bags but will still use up my Costco supply for every day. My husband does wish there was a handle on the top so that one could also lift up the lid - but again - that would take away from the sleekness and an avenue for the dog to gain entry - but hubby still does like the can. I might look for a super powerful magnetic knob to try but haven't gone that far yet.All said - I actually love a garbage can! I looked for a very long time, have a previous 4 still in the basement not to mention the disposed of ones for electronic lids breaking, steps breaking or just pieces of crap. Considering how many separate cans I have gone through, this can is worth the huge price tag - lots of engineering to pay for. It is wonderful to just have one can, not two, at the end of the counter and even guests who don't recycle can figure out that we do. I definitely recommend this purchase - so far so good. If it breaks soon, I will update this post but it does seem fairly solid.
