'If Bill Haley was the Father of white Rock n roll and Elvis its King, then there can be no other legitimate contender for the title of the Father of Rockabilly than Carl Perkins. So said author, DJ, musician and record producer Stuart Colman and the music on this 2 disc compilation is impressive evidence. His music is still as potent as ever, and you can enjoy the pick of Perkins earliest and best, with tracks such as "Blue Suede Shoes", "Long Tall Sally" and "Movie Magg", you'll be rockin' in no time!

Great Perkins tunes beautifully remastered.
A under appreciated musician at the time these recordings were made.< Perkins has long since been elevated to the status he deserves among the early rock pioneers. The tracks ere recorded between 1955 and 1959 for the Sun and columbia labels. The sound has been cleaned up quite nicely and the tracks are a joy to listen to. Carl had a groove and it sounds so good. early rock 'n roll at it's best. Now lets turn the volume up to 11 and all get Dixie fried!

The Rockabilly Years - Carl Perkins is a great CD to listen to...
Carl Perkins is one of the great County singer that seems to be under rated... He has a great voice to listen to.... Added this CD to my play list to listen to in my ride...

Carl Perkins Good - One Day not as good
The producer of this CD is Ond Day music. They put out some well-recorded CDs of music you can't always get easily. One complaint - this CD, like a couple of the other Rockabilly CDs I got by One Day, has the tracks mislabeled. In this case, both CDs have the same track list. This makes ripping the CD harder. I rip because I like to play my music via a flash drive in my car. I also like the name on therecorded track to match what the song actually is.I don't like writing negative reviews, but One Day has yet to answer my previous emails to them about this issue, forcing me to write this public review. To summarize, great recordings of great music, but with annoying formatting issues and apparently bad customer service by One Day Music.

This is a great compilation of his rockabilly hits
The King of Rockabilly himself Carl Perkins. This is a great compilation of his rockabilly hits. The packaging is made of nice gloss cardboard and the cd's are printed like they are 45 records. It is hard to find a cd with just his rockabilly and not any country on it. This will keep the party jumping!

Let's All Get Dixie Fried!
Happened to hear Dixie Fried the other night on the radio, (Little Steven's Underground Garage), and remembered one time in the '70's, a friend who does sound for films, flew in to south Florida on his way to a shoot in somewhere north of that, (in central Florida). It was a county fair kind of thing and he lures me by telling me the headliners were ZZ Top, and I have been a fan since their beginning, so I went. The Top performed as expected but Carl Perkins opened for them and I was treated to one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen by a true pioneer of Rock and Roll. Hearing that song the other night brought it all back and this record has all the great songs he did at that show. He's more famous now for being covered, (like Buddy Holly), than being an artist in his own right, but buy this and listen to it and see where everyone who came after him, got their chops.

What Helped Early Rock Get Its Rock Rolling
One of the all time great early rockers. Get blown away by these early chestnuts of rock and roll. Get into what EARLY rock had going -- a release for the young looking for their own music style in the early 50s. Go Cat!

Nice collection to have.
Nice rockabilly Carl Perkins collection. Nice hearing a few tunes that were his but other artists did and I just assumed it was theirs. Like Blue Suede Shoes for example, I just always thought that was Elvis from the start. As I was listening though, it did seem like a lot of the songs were a bit similar.

The Sun recordings are great full of rockabilly vibrancy
The Sun recordings are great full of rockabilly vibrancy. The sound engineer should be applauded. However the non Sun records are truly awful. They have more reverb and seem to move away from rockabilly into a more Little Richard swing rock style with the introduction of saxes.l would advise anyone who wants to own an album of Carl Perkins to buy with just the Sun recordings to save skipping over the dire later stuff

Rockabilly rarely bettered
Only dropped a star 'cos i have 98% of it already, mostly Sun with some Columbia tracks thrown in. real rockin' from the late great Carl Perkins a genuine original star who should have and would have been bigger but for fate! most people who like this stuff will probably, like me have most of it.
