I love this slicer so much!
I love this slicer so much!!!! I finally bit the bullet and bought a Zojirushi Virtuoso Plus bread machine to make all of my bread from scratch. It makes absolutely STUNNING loaves of bread that I was absolutely MANGLING when trying to slice them. I was using a large serated bread knife and one of those guide things to try and keep the slices even. It was a nightmare. I researched a few different bread slicer options and kept circling around to this one. It was a little pricier than other options I was looking at and I was a little intimidated by how this would actually work. I’m so glad I took a chance with this even with my uncertainty! It. Is. Amazing!! It sliced my loaf in perfectly even, thin slices that made my bread looked like it came from an artisanal bakery! No squishing. No tearing. No uneven slices. It cut alllll the way to the end of the bread. I was stunned at how easy and efficient this slicer is! The ONLY minor concern is my husband worries about my fingertips with the rotating blade but that’s more a testament to my clumsiness and track record more than the machine. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND his slicer!

Dramatically better than the knock offs
I had a knock off inexpensive slicer for about a year. It worked OK, but then broke. The blade was not that sharp, and the adjustment to the thickness fence was not robust and did not hold the thickness very well. It would move on its own. There is just no comparison to the Zassenhaus. It is dramatically better. Now, the version I have is the very expensive one with the folding table and the fine adjustable fence mechanism, not the less expensive version with the less robust fence adjustment mechanism. That one looks similar to the knock offs, and may have a similar problem. Only users of that one can comment. I make sourdough about once a week, and cutting it with a knife is very difficult. The Zassenhaus makes it a joy. The slices are uniform, and it takes very little effort. Yes this is a very expensive product for what it does. But for me using it for our daily bread it has really been wonderful. I have only had it for a month or two now, so I hope it holds up. But so far it is a huge improvement over the less expensive versions.

Phenomenal!
We LOVE this bread slicer! Zero complaints about the performance, ease of use, or grip of the suction cups. We have granite countertops and the slicer has a very firm, zero slip grip. I wish we had bought this sooner because I make a very crusty sourdough and due to an old hand injury struggle to slice it. This is the solution!

Save your money!
I really wanted to love this. First of all it is so expensive for a manual slicer. I figured, well it’s pricey so it must be good. The reviews told me it was great. We had just started offering slicing bread for our bakery. It cut our bread so crooked and lopsided. It made no sense. It was wobbly and loose with no way to fix the actual issue. No tools that would tighten the bolts. It looked like an L wrench was needed but nothing worked that we tried and I have every size. I reached out to the actual company as per Amazon’s advice and no one ever got back to me. The little suction cups on the bottom don’t really keep it still so you’re at risk to get your finger sliced off like I did. I have so many cuts on my hands from trying to hold it still and push the bread and turn the handle. You need two people. It’s sad. I followed the care and washing instructions. It was never soaked in water but the bottom by the blade looks like it was. So I’m not sure if I was given a used product but it was splintering wood right under the blade where it opens up for crumbs to come down in that slit. Again, I really wanted to love this but the cheap one from Amazon does the job and actually sticks to the counter.

Solid kitchen tool, but should be better for the price
Higher price usually means higher quality. When the price is incredibly higher than other items of the same design and purpose, it's expected to be one heck of a lot better. I bought the larger, more expensive Zassenhaus expecting it to last through numerous bread slices and cut even hard-crusted breads like sourdough as hot knife through butter. We baked a fresh loaf of white for this tool's inauguration. It made a couple of cuts with incredible ease, smooth as can be with slices as perfect as can be. Then the blade stopped spinning. I found that the hand crank is attached to a metal rod, which is in turn attached to a plastic gear. The metal rod was just spinning in the bore. It is apparently a glued connection. As an engineer, I highly recommend a better and stronger connection, such as a small pin that holds the pieces together. Or at least use a quality glue. On the upside, I notified the seller right away and they immediately sent a replacement. The new one has made it through a few loaves now and is still intact. We have not yet tried a harder-crusted bread. The ease and accuracy of the slice thickness adjustment mechanism is wonderful, and does not slip. The blade does not wobble at all and is perfectly aligned. The tool is incredibly easy to clean, and I love the fold-up portion of the board itself, which makes for easier storage and partially protects against accidental skin/blade contact. I do love this tool, and I hope that it lasts.

Marvellous
Best bread slicer for German bread, rolls, Salami, and so much more. I had an electric slicer and it was not worth the money. This Zassenhaus slicer is fantastic. Very heavy, sturdy, great suction to the surface, it works easily and like a charm. Should have bought it much sooner. We get German bread imported and it's totally easy to slice any thickness. The blade is very sharp and heavy. Those slicers used to be a staple in German homes, and I am so glad I finally bought one.

Good Quality but Needs a Slice Guide
The Zassenhaus bread slicer is well built and cuts even slices effortlessly. That said, not having a built in slice guide is more of a hassle than I thought it would be. About halfway through a slice, the slice flops over interfering with the crank handle. I’m going to have to rig up a guide somehow, not something I should have to do for a premium product. There are similar slicers for 1/4 of the price that come with a guide.

Brilliant at what it does.
This is a brilliant gizmo. Had it now for 3 years. Bought it purely for slicing bread as I have a wrist problem. Had tried an electric knife, but the vibrations aggravated my wrist. This slices beautifully. Thickness adjustment is very easy. It's easy to clean - I just use a pastry brush to brush away crumbs. The only adjustment I've needed is a clamp to hold it still - the suction pads don't hold it still. But this is minor and with a (woodworking) spring hand clamp, it's held firm and works quickly and easily. Another point is that it's rather better at slicing flatter loaves, rather than tall tin loaves - tho it still manages that fine. I wouldn't be without it.
