Great first impression! sort of...
I ordered these on Friday and got them the following Friday, I live in California, so i'm half a country away from the distributor, so I expected this. When i got the wheels I put them all together and nothing went wrong (apart from getting my cassette off my old wheel!) And I soon had them on. dialing in the brakes and gears was easy, and the wheels are true, and the freewheel is relatively quiet. I pressed the stickers on hard and had to straighten the rim strips, which took a few seconds. My only big issue was the fact that when the front wheel went on, and i turned it, it squeaked a little bit! after learning it was the bearing, i spun the wheel for about 5 minutes to break in the bearings, now the wheels are both completely silent. These are exactly as expected, and i'm happy with the value.A little bit of info: These wheels are double walled, They only accept PRESTA valves over 40mm, they are quick release, and they come with a rim strip, and skewers. They are 8/9 speed, and work with 7/10 speed cassettes with a spacer. They use Shimano or SRAM cassettes, they are sealed bearing (no service), and they are 24 spoke (which means less truing), they also accept both rim breaks, and 6-hole disc brakes. The biggest thing is that, though these are double walled, they weigh a little bit less than my old single walled rims, which didn't even have disc mounts! The only reason the star has been taken off is because, while these are good, they are not AMAZING. we must realize that a 5 star rating usually means the item exceeds expectations, which this, did not. Still very happy though!Update 4/5/14: I installed some entry-level Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, and I am pleased to report that these accept disc brakes with flying colors, there were no issues, and the bolts are staying nice and tight. I can find virtually nothing wrong with these rims. If they made a set in 29" carbon fiber, they would go on my specialized! these are still holding up to be great wheels, and are still relatively true after quite a bit of rough terrain and stair descents!

A great purchase!
Overview:These wheels are a great entry level set for anyone who is looking for a dependable MTB wheel that goes beyond stock quality. They are also quite fashionable and will spice up the look of just about any 26" bike out there. I would definitely recommend them for city commuting and trail riding. (I use these with my rigid Cannondale M300). Note: These are a bit heavier than what the name might lead you to think.Pros:-Super sturdy design. Double walled aluminum and aerodynamic V shape make for a fast and secure ride.- Mulitple Braking surfaces. If you want to change this wheel set between bikes with disc and linear pull, you can do so easily.- The hubs are super smooth! No noise or vibration out of my wheelset.- The spokes are bladed for an aero effect to match the V curve of the rim.Cons:- The decals are stickers not paint or vinyl. I pulled these off and ended up with a nice matte black look. (almost a benefit).- The hubs are kinda dorky looking. (In my opinion).- The wheels are a bit heavier than I expected-- definitely heavier than a professional wheelset would be.

Wheels showed up dirty but great value.
These seem nice. I haven't used the yet, but when they came they were all dirty and had spiderwebs and even spider egg sacks on the wheels. These rims seemed like they were sitting in someone's basement then they stuck them in a box and shipped them to me. The wheels seems to be brand new and show no signs of use but they were just dirty. These are MTB rims so they were going to get really dirty. It was just a pain because I read they a few coats of clear coat would help make the stickers stay stuck on the rims. So I had to clean these up so I could spray the clear coat on.

A Definite Performance Upgrade
I purchased these wheels for my 2002 Gary Fisher Wahoo MTB that I am slowly converting to a capable daily commuter. I am not a bike expert. I am a fat guy who has committed to commuting to work by bike every day for a year. I am 4 months in and realized that I need to replace my stock Matrix 550 wheels to which I have added between 1500-1700 miles to an unknown total. The installation went smoothly. I am not familiar with Presta valves so there was a bit of a snag on tire inflation. I had to get an adapter to use my shop air compressor. I have tested these wheels for 3 days now. Same bike, same route, same weather conditions. They have noticeably reduced my one hour commute. The 28 minute leg is down to 23-25 minutes with about the same effort. During my sprint, my top speed has increased from 22.2 to 24.2 mph. My moving average has increased and I notice that I coast a lot longer. I feel like I'm in the brakes a lot more. I have not noticed any of the issues with the decals that other reviewers mention. Also the spacing on my V-brakes was good so no major adjustments were needed. I will eventually upgrade to disc brakes and enjoy having that option with this wheelset. Overall I am happy with this purchase. Even though it was primarily to replace worn parts it seems like a definite performance upgrade.
