Diablo Stovetop Toasted Sandwich Snack Maker

Got this for my husband who kept talking about grilled cheese sandwiches his mother used to make. This was cheaper than the one advertised as just like the old type and I was able to get free shipping. I like that it's nonstick and cleans like a dream. The only problem is that the little metal ring that holds the handles together got lost very quickly. I'll try to find something to replace it. However, the sandwiches cook so fast that you can just hold the handles together. The best part is that my hubby, who does absolutely nothing for himself in the kitchen, now will make his own grilled cheese! If it every breaks, I'll buy another! Oh...and l love to use it, too.

The NY Times dining section recently featured an article on the popular Toastite maker from the '50's. For me, it immediately conjured memories of amazing childhood sandwich lunches that my grandmother would make...I hadn't had one of those sandwiches for 40 years, but I could still taste it like it was yesterday. The article described a new version of the Toastite and I excitedly checked it out. I was on the verge of buying it when I saw this product also on Amazon. What I like about the Diablo compared to the new Toastite is two-fold: price and clean up. (1) The Toastite is approximately $40 (no free shipping) vs $15 for the Diablo (free shipping) (2)The Diablo is dishwasher safe, the Toastite is not. I think the fact that the Toastite is not dishwasher safe is a major design flaw. It's really convenient to just pop it in the dishwasher when done. I've been making 3-4 sandwiches a day and the only problem I've had is the hinge came off during a wash in the dishwasher. So, I went to the hardware store and purchased a cheap 1" clamp to keep it locked while cooking. It's worked great! Another option would be a strong rubber band. Either way, you'll find this makes addicting sandwiches and is well worth the price.

I have been searching for something like this for a long time, so I'm glad I found this. It works very well - the only negative thing for me is that the metal part of the handle gets extremely hot, so you have to remember to only touch the red part of the handle.

It’s a great unit to making toastie pies, we use it in our rv and at home . Heats up quickly, make sure you use the handle , it gets hot Easy to clean

I bought the Diablo Stovetop Toasted Sandwich Snack Maker, to try to replicate a spaceburger, which is a local favorite only available 1 week a year at the Grant County fair in Washington. It worked great, sealed the bread tightly and my kids are having fun making up their own versions. Our favorite desert is a smore. Just place piece of chocolate, marshmallow and some crumbled gram crackers between two slices of white bread or pie crust and cook. Earlier comments about poor hinge design seemed to have been fixed, the hinge is solid with screws and no cotter pins.

In the '50's we had an aluminum pie maker which we loved. The DIABLO pie maker is a good modern-day version of this. Definitely NOT for an open campfire or even a fireplace it is best on a stovetop. The shorter handles are better suited to this kind of use. The wire closer latch seems pretty flimsy and the quite short handles can get dangerously hot if you don 't keep your hands back from the metal part. All in all its an adequate tool at the price. I would keep the following in mind if you buy: 1. NOT for camping or fireplaces, no way. 2. Handles can get hot.....use hotpads or gloves. 3. Your imagination will create all kinds of yummy goodies with the Diablo. Its' little horns are cute.

I know a lot of people say that the Diablo is too small or wastes bread but i think it's perfect. I have made awesome beef patties, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and everything is super easy, non-stick, and virtually no clean up. I also found that Arnold's sandwich thins are the exact size of this sandwich iron and work very well. I love hot sandwiches and this makes everything just better than I could have without it. I am also very full after 1 sandwich. Try it!

I LOVE IT! Bought it as a present for my dad but I've pretty much taken it on as my own! I love making toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in here! It's super easy to use and clean up. You do waste some bread when using this, but it's perfect if you're not a fan of the crust!

Unkompliziert zu reinigen. Erhitzt sich innerhalb von einigen Sekunden. Hat Härtetest mit diversen Gasmischungen überlebt, Propan, Butan, 300er, 400er, Wintergas, ... alles bestens! Im/am Lagerfeuer ebenfalls zu verwenden oder auf Kelly Cattle oder Hobos. Benzinkocher z.B. Coleman Sportster II 533, sind ebenfalls kein Problem. Bis auf die isolierte Schicht des Griffs, erhitzt sich dieser recht schnell, daher nicht versehentlich zu weit nach vorn greifen! Griffisolierung ist aber ausreichend dimensioniert. Alles in allem eine gute Anschaffung, auf die ich nicht mehr verzichten mag.

this "jaffle iron" as we called them when we were kids, did exactly what I wanted. I was not expecting too much at the price-point and was pleasantly surprised. it is easy to use, easy to clean. The only slight issue is you will touch the hot part of the handle the first couple of times you use it, as other reviewers have pointed out, but after a couple of occasions, my brain clicked into gear and I have not done it since.

Perfectly non-stick, though it takes a long time to arrive from UK. The closing mechanism is not very good. When you close the bread is pushed away from the top.
