SAKRETE | Flo-Coat Concrete Resurfacer | 40 lb

Sakrete has uniquely marketed this resurface solution with the clever name of "Flo-Coat" and after using 11 bags I can truly say I am pleased. It has totally resurfaced my front porch stoop (6' x 7') and the 40' long walk with an overall appearance that matches new concrete.While expensive, the product is a material science marvel and economical when compared with total replacement.I cannot stress enough to follow the mixing instructions (ratio of water to mix ) and be sure to use an electric drill and mix paddle. Also, if you are working larger areas, use the support of another person as the material sets quickly and keeping your mixer / bucket clean while tending to the finish can be a challenge.I achieved the best outcome by covering the area within minutes of firming with damp burlap and plastic to avoid any surface distress while curing. I maintained the moisture for the first 24 hours.Don't be fooled by competitive offerings ! This finish exactly matches that of a concrete poured pad , while others have a gray painted appearance. Just not the same if matching adjacent surfaces.Utilize the Sakrete "Calculator" on their website to estimate the quantity required. In my case, I maintained a minimum thickness of 1/8 inch , but in some areas it approached 1/2 inch in thickness to offset some surface irregularities. A light form was required along the sidewalk edges in these areas to control the material, just as you would if pouring new. If you are just using a squeegee, no form is required.I used the squeegee to thoroughly engage the material into the existing surface, even in areas where my leveling thickness was a 1/4" or 1/2". Working the material initially into the surface is probably critical for good adhesion.In the end, after the material was firm, I used a wooden float to hand rub a natural finish with the slightest of texture. I dont if it was the sell or if it was the product but i installed this mixing as required and more with air bubblea everwhere and dry clumps. I recieved the bags and they were half exposed to water i feel.. several of the bags were alread hard and stiff.. i think the bags i bought were old product. My garage looks worse than it did before this product.. should have used a different product.

Product arrived as hard as a brick. Must have been in moisture. Could not dissolve in water to spread. Wasted $200.00

To bad it didn't qualify for free shipping and I hope it doesn't chip up

Very satisfied with this purchase. Although it took me a few bags to get the right mixture ratio, I really like how easy it was to spread the new concrete on my garage floor.

If you product arrives already hardened, you will have paid already an exorbitant amount for S&H. All the local stores were out of resurfacer. I made the mistake of ordering online. Basically if almost half arrives unusable, you will be paying effectively twice as much as in store.I've used 3 different resurfacers - I really can't tell them apart - they are all good. Follow the instructions and you will be fine.

I used three bags of this product to cover a concrete patio laid in 1961 and which was cracked, pebbled, and slightly heaved. Naturally I ground down the heave and properly sealed all the cracks before thoroughly cleaning and prepping the surface. I mixed the product with precisely the amount of water recommended (3.5 qt.) and as recommended (5 gal. bucket, electric drill with mixing tool.) I applied it with a long handled tool made for the purpose... squeegee on one side and brush on the other, 24" wide. Pouring the product out it seems very liquid. In a matter of just ten minutes it transitions to a fairly stiff material and in 20 it is granular and useless so you MUST spread it within the 20 minutes. Each 40 pound bag yielded almost exactly the right amount to cover 75 square feet at a broom finish. At 60 degrees F outside, no wind, 70% humidity (In other words, a picture perfect day! ) the product was dry to the touch in a half hour. Pour out about half the batch for a ten by six area, bearing in mind which direction you want to draw the broom and making sure you have LOTS of clear area around you to walk on and to draw the broom back while you WALK it out. If you try to do hand over hand you will get messy lines and an uneven surface. It goes on Battleship Grey but becomes Concrete White upon drying. Fills small gaps and cracks and makes them invisible. Fills in between the exposed pebbles of old weathered concrete making it smoother and newer looking. In my case these pits between pebbles may have been 1/8th to 3/16ths deep. Leaves a really nice looking, crisp and clean finish. You have to draw the broom slowly and at a low angle to avoid harmonic vibration causing wobbly looking variations. Upon picking up the broom be sure to swing it IMMEDIATELY over the un-broomed area so that you do not drip globs back on your nice, new pattern! Need to make an ending edge between this finish and an area you do not wish to resurface? Duct Tape makes an excellent edge mask!Drawbacks: You REALLY gotta fight with the mixer. This stuff is HEAVY and stiff. You must be sure to really dig down deep in the bucket and scrape all the sides or there will be dry, unmixed material left behind and the mix ratio will be messed up. Don't even try a battery operated or light-duty drill. I used a half inch chucked, 1/4 horse, 2 handed plug-in hammer drill and it was struggling. Also, the bags are a bugger to open. Forget the built in spout. WEAR A DUST MASK! Slice the bag wide open, add some, mix, repeat until it is all mixed in. USE EXACT AMOUNT OF WATER!It is a great product if you use it precisely according to directions and do not waste time laying it down.
