High Flex and Oil Resistant Applications
When it comes to working on automotive projects or any high-flex and oil-resistant applications, having the right tools and materials is crucial. As an avid DIY enthusiast and a car lover, I have tried various gasket makers over the years, and none have impressed me as much as the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker. In this comprehensive and entertaining review, I will share my personal experience with this incredible product, highlighting its exceptional performance, helpfulness tips, and why I believe it deserves a resounding 5 out of 5 stars. 1. Exceptional Performance: From the moment I opened the package, I could tell that the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Gasket Maker meant business. Its consistency was perfect—neither too thick nor too runny—and it spread smoothly, ensuring easy application. I found the 3 oz size to be ideal for most of my projects, providing an ample amount of product without unnecessary wastage. 2. Unmatched Oil Resistance: One of the standout features of the Permatex 82180 is its incredible oil resistance. I have used it on several engine-related applications, including oil pans, valve covers, and even transmission housings. Regardless of the temperature or the type of oil involved, this gasket maker has proven to be a reliable sealant, preventing any leaks or seepage. It's like having a superhero protecting your engine from potential disasters! 3. Sensor Safe and Non-Corrosive: One of the concerns I had when choosing a gasket maker was its compatibility with sensors and other delicate components. Thankfully, the Permatex 82180 is sensor safe and non-corrosive, meaning I didn't have to worry about damaging any electronic parts. This feature gave me peace of mind, knowing that I could use it confidently without any adverse effects on my vehicle's performance or longevity. 4. High Flexibility: In high-flex applications, such as intake manifolds or exhaust systems, the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Gasket Maker truly shines. Its high flexibility ensures that the seal remains intact even under extreme vibrations and movements. I was pleasantly surprised to find that even after months of usage, the gasket remained intact and showed no signs of cracking or deterioration. It's like a gymnast doing backflips effortlessly! 5. Helpful Tips for Success: To maximize the effectiveness of the Permatex 82180, I would recommend following these helpful tips: • Ensure that the surfaces to be sealed are clean and free from oil or debris. Use a suitable solvent to clean the area thoroughly before applying the gasket maker. • Apply a uniform and continuous bead of silicone around the entire perimeter of the sealing area. Make sure to avoid excessive application as it can lead to excess squeeze-out and wastage. • Allow sufficient curing time as specified in the instructions. I typically leave it overnight to ensure a complete and durable bond. • If you're working on an application where the gasket maker will be exposed to extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals, consider using a primer or accelerator to enhance the bonding performance. Personal Experience: Having used the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Gasket Maker extensively, I can confidently say that it has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Its reliable sealing capabilities, exceptional oil resistance, and flexibility make it an indispensable tool for any automotive enthusiast or professional mechanic. I have tackled various projects with this gasket maker, and it has never let me down. Plus, its affordability and ease of use make it accessible to everyone, regardless of their skill level. Conclusion: In conclusion, the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker is a remarkable product that deserves a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars. Its exceptional performance, unmatched oil resistance, sensor-safe formulation, high flexibility, and helpfulness tips make it a must-have for any automotive project. The GOAT of RTVs, worth the money...
Used to seal a plain old stamped steel lower oil pan to the aluminum upper oil pan. Followed directions, zero leaks, cures just as fast as directions state: finger tighten, then 60 minutes wait, then torque to spec, then 30 minutes wait, then pour oil in. About the only bad part (and it isn't their fault) is how annoying it is to squeeze it out with a continuous pressure because it's a tube, companies sell "tube dispensing pliers", I just don't do enough of these to justify buying one. Some may wonder just how well it adheres and how easy it is to remove after a fresh application. I had to remove the pan roughly four weeks after resealing with Right Stuff (reason for removal had nothing to do with Right Stuff), so I was able to test the adhesion as well. The old RTV that was on the pan for fourteen years was so weak and already seeping oil past it, that just inserting a putty knife by hand and twisting at one corner removed the entire pan. Right Stuff adhered so well that I had to insert the putty knife into three corners, by hammer, twist just to even start splitting, then do a lot of downward pulling. No damage (or bending) occurred to the pan and it does come off but the adhesion is extremely tight. With the pan bolts on I can see why this wouldn't leak oil and it's been months now with zero drops of oil. Getting the remnants off the lower and upper oil pan was mildly annoying since it was stuck on well, but nothing plastic razor blades couldn't fix. On the second time around re-sealing the pan, I used the same tube of Right Stuff, the pan is 14x9 inches so the tube had enough to do that pan about three times with a ~4mm bead, if you like to smear it rather than bead it, you can probably get more out of it if you smear it without waste. After four weeks the Right Stuff in the tube was just as pliable as when I first bought it, I've never had to re-seal back to back like this with a four week gap between, usually the gap between when I use a tube is months to years and it's dried up by that point, so just know it's going to last a while. Save the plastic nozzle when you're done with it, if you throw the nozzle away you're going to need to buy the nozzle four pack that Permatex sells if you need it again anyway. The nozzle may look like a lost cause because of the RTV in it, but just let it dry and cure, once it dries and cures, it becomes a plug that when pushed (with a pick, ballpoint pen, etc), comes out completely leaving no residue or mess in the nozzle, doesn't adhere to it at all. Also don't attempt to clean the RTV out of the nozzle while it's still wet, you're either going to need solvents which will damage the plastic, or you're just going to spread the RTV thin on the walls of the nozzle and when it dries you're going to have to scrape the inside up to flake it off. Keep it simple, leave the mass of RTV in there whole so that it all comes out together as one piece/plug.

Fixed faucet leak in no time. Teflon and pipe dope couldn't get it done. Normal permatex couldn't get it done even after waiting 24h before turning on the water. Applied this and after a few minutes I turned the water on and no leak! Going on 1 month now without a leak.
