Has anyone tried to use the Scan Smart option to get through airport security?  Just wondering if it actually works.

YES it works. It is NOT a ploy to get you to buy the bag. I am a flight attendant of 29 years, and have used a Scan Smart option since they have been available. I travel in uniform and without, and the only time I have had to remove it was when traveling from an international destination back to the U.S.. The key is that ONLY the laptop can be in the Laptop compartment. And it must be upzippered OPEN (the laptop SECTION, not the laptop container), and laying flat AWAY from the rest of the bag. (As if you've split the bag in two, and the laptop section is on one side and the rest of the bag is on the other side, still connected by a seam at the top or bottom, depending on the bag design.) If you have even a roll of mints in that laptop section, they will make you take the laptop out. No loose change, your wallet or passport. NOTHING but the laptop.  Now there will ALWAYS be random bag searches. Even for crew members. So to say it works 100% of the time would be misleading. But even if you had to take it out 1 out of 10 times, it is still worth it in my opinion. And for the person that said the TSA scanner told them it's a ploy, you have to realize that the traveling public is not always nice going through security. So maybe the bag was packed wrong, or it was a random extra search, and they were just trying to piss off the passenger that asked the question, because they were having a bad day, or just felt like making something up because they really didn't know the answer.  Bottomline is YES Scan Smart option REALLY does work. But remember to pack it right and open it correctly on the belt. Safe Travels!

I've had this laptop bag for about 2 years. Wife got it for me, and it's worked great. I travel for work, and tend to take this bag with me rather than my standard laptop bag, due to the ability to stuff a lot in there and still be able to easily pass through security. Build quality (for me) has been great. I don't use it daily, but for standard usage it should last a while.

Does this backpack have a luggage trolley pass through so that it can be slipped over my rollerboard handle?
