This little kit, gets you in to the world of lock picking, yes its a great training aid, and yes you can pick loads of locks, its a very informative start to a brill hobby, you have the tools with this kit,, just practice 😉

No I don't think it's meant to be flush, it is always a couple of mm away from the body

Will this set work for an old (Art deco era) cabinet?

I doubt an Art Deco cabinet will have a pin lock - its more likely to be a lever/mortice, so I suspect not. To be honest, I’ve got into similar low security locks with a bend coat hanger. You might be better off investing in a decent magnifying glass to look at the mechanism closely, and then use a pair of pliers to bend some coat hanger wire to approximately the right length to move the lever, and with a bit of jiggling you’ll probably get in. If you are not extremely careful, it will scratch the inside of the lock, so if its not your lock, it will be obvious its been picked no matter how you pick it.
