BAOFENG Speaker MIC For BAOFENG UV-5R 5RA 5RB 5RC 5RD 5RE 5REPLUS 3R+ 5R EX, 5RX3, Black

Great Product

I use a Baofeng radio with helmet PTT for communications while snowmobiling. Before purchasing this unit, I also kept a BCA Link on my shoulder pack as a backup. This speaker was purchased as a 'just in case' secondary backup due to very low price with the expectation that it would never be used. After ripping the helmet comms wiring in a crash, this unit became my primary backup because it is louder than the ~$200 BCA unit. Sound quality is just ok, but it's beyond adequate when competing with the engine noise from a sled. After two seasons in my day-pack with occasional use, durability so far has proven to be great (especially considering how cheaply it could be replaced if it ever fails). Overall, an absolute win for ~$10; don't waste your money on the brand name hardware.

I'm a ham since '72 and I hold the Extra ticket. Also a broadcast and music producer/engineer. This speaker/mic is good for the price. It's not a "great" speaker/mic but it's a worthwhile add-on for my Baofeng UV5R V2+. The audio from the speaker is very similar to the sound of the HT's speaker. Maybe a little boxy sounding but the price makes up for it. The mic seems louder than the one on the HT. The case, wire and plugs are sturdy enough for normal use. I will buy a 2nd one and experiment with a couple upgrades of my own. Anyway, I gave it 4 stars because it's not "great" but for the price it's definitely worth 5 stars.

What I expected in a Baofeng mic

The quality feels a little cheap. But it works well. I use this at work.

The mic has a very cheap feel to it. I feel like if I were to drop it, it would burst into pieces. It seems to work ok but the sound is clearer coming from my radio rather than the mic. The cord is very short on it, yes it curled up but you have to stretch it out in order to reach your belt (where the radio is attached) so why even curl the wire at all? If you ask me I'd go for a more expensive mic instead of this one. The one thing I did like about it is the size of the mic itself, it's small and fits perfectly in my hand.

This is a great mic because you can plug in any headphone into it. even my iPhone headphones work with it. Of course its only out of one ear, but its nice that its not proprietary to a Baofeng product. The build of this if very nice, a VERY crisp click of the PTT. and a quite solid connection to the radio. However I have had it slip out a few times and Ive had to turn off the radio, plug it in firm and then back on to make sure it was working but normally not much of a problem there.
