Good quality
Very nice shovel. I used it as a hatchet to cut some wood for a bone fire, worked great. Good quality.

Disappointing quality, defects in workmanship.
I ordered this on cyber monday, and was really excited. After opening the box, I was excited to try it out. For scale, i placed the product down on an 8x11 sheet of paper. It's not huge, but it seems to be big enough to dig small holes/trenches. Unfortunately i won't be using the one i received. The item i received will not lock into place using the "tactical 'O' ring." You can see the pictures below that the tabs from the shovel head simply do not line up in the 180 degree position. The tabs do line up with the o-ring in the other positions. Not usable in it's current state. My only other issue is with the overall quality. The grease on the head isn't really a problem (the discolorations in the opened flat view in my pictures), my issue lies with quality of cuts/welds around the holes. It looks like it was meant to be a hex hole, but was drilled out and later welded for a repair.Overall, not impressed. I really wanted this to be a great item, but couldn't even take it on my backpacking trip.

Dig baby dig!
So far so good. Very well made, not very heavy, sheath is made cheaply but not a big deal in my book.

Looks like a handy and sturdy tool to keep in the trunk/bug-out bag. I'm not sure about the laser etching but appreciate the sharpened edges.

Very please so far!
When I first opened the box I was 1st surprised how compact this shovel was (I should have looked at the specs and I would have known better). But this was a pleasant surprise to say the least. I would put this in a bug out bag or a get home kit in heartbeat. Or just keep it in your car for emergencies. I’m pretty sure I going taking it backpacking in lieu of my trowel because it is so multipurpose.Being that it is just getting off the cold season here in Washington Sate (yes we are way above average in temperature as to the rest of the US) I still have not been able to find a lot of time to test it outside of my own backyard. So I had no other choice to put this item through some paces doing some serious yard work and gardening. The 1st thing that comes to mind that I thought really put it to the test was trying to pry a 6ft long 4x4 that was for some reason buried in my yard. I put it in the 90 degree position and used it to try to get under the end and pry this beast from her grave (This is not recommended by the manufacture by the way) I was sure I was about to bend the shovel as I put my whole weight into it and failed to barely budge it. Although I did not get the board out I was amazingly impressed at how my 260lbs did not even slightly compromise the locking mechanism or bent the piece altogether. Later we found out it was actually a 4x8 and was buried even deeper that 1st expected.Next up would be digging a hole in my yard to replant a tree. It was not a massive tree but in about 3-4 minutes using the shovel in the 90 degree position like a trench digger to dig the hole I was able to make a 2ft across and 3ft deep hole with relative ease in mildly dense soil. Using it in this fashion has become my favorite way to use the tool!We were also digging a small channel for an invisible fence for the dog. The challenge of tree roots presented itself in short order. Although I have other tools like bow saws for this kind of job, I wanted to give the saw a shot at success. I was astonished for how short the cutting surface that it made quick work of roots up to 4” in diameter. I also used the other side to chop some smaller roots and that worked pretty well too. Btw, the sheath that it comes with is a must as the saw and the cutting edge are fairly sharp and could be dialed up to very sharp quickly with a few strokes of a hone or sharpening rod. That night after beating the daylights out of this thing I was so tired that I left it in the yard for a few wet days and was very pleased that it did not have a spot of rust on it anywhere when I realized what I had done and went to retrieve it.I used the ferro rod that comes in the handle to light a fire in the wood stove and it is every bit of good as the ones you buy at the store for your kit, so you would have an extra with you if you were packing this in addition to you the one already in your fire kit. After you pull the steel match out of the end, the tube is empty the length of the handle. I know I will find a bunch of supplies to tuck away in this great storage place. Fire tender and starters is the 1st thing that comes to mind. Not a lot of negatives come to mind from my preliminary review but there were a few. Not sure that the hex wrenches are really practical but they could come in handy in a pinch. Also I could never figure out how the wire cutters work but I really didn’t care because I have that capability on my multi-tool. I did not really care for the tribal design on the face very much although that is just cosmetic and did not really bother me once I started using it.All in all I am pleased so far and cannot wait to get it out in the woods with me and bang on it some more. What it really has going for it is the robustness of the materials and design as well as how well it can dig in the 90 degree position. Definitely worth money in my book.I will write a follow up review after my 1st backpacking adventure of the year next weekend.

This very well may be the last survival tool/shovel you ever need! I have always been a huge fan of the spetsnaz shovel because of its multiple uses: a shovel (obviously), a weapon, a machete, a cooking utensil, etc. That was my initial appeal to this tool. Now, we all have seen Chinese novelty "survival tools", usually made from cheap materials, at a cheap price...they do the job for a little while and eventually end up stripping a bolt or some crucial component bends or breaks. THIS IS NOT one of those Chinese toys! This gives you the versatility of a military e-tool or a spetsnaz shovel, but has a few modern day twists. It is obvious that when this tool was designed it was done so with the thought "how many uses can I fit into one tool?". This shovel comes with an instruction card, listing the uses, but I would argue that they are far greater when the imagination is left to work. If I only had ONE tool to bring into the wilderness, it would honestly probably be my bushcraft knife, but this would be a close second! A high quality product in my book and well worth every penny. If you want a real functional survival tool, this is it!
