Brand New Ancients: A Poem

I love Kate Tempest's style of poetry. Even when it is not read aloud (which it should be), her words have a rhythm and flow that is just a pleasure to read. "Brand New Ancients" is my favorite of her works. The writing is beautiful, engaging, and relatable, and I think the story can speak to a lot of people. I would recommend everyone read "Brand New Ancients," even people who don't normally like poetry. It really is something special.

This work is great. I actually read the printed form of this first with my wife. I like Kate Tempest's verbal delivery, so I bought this. She truly touches on our reality.

I have been despairing over the state of contemporary poetry. Our great poets are old and many are leaving us or will soon be leaving us. One thinks of Seamus Heaney and Mary Oliver.I have feared we are entering a "dark ages" of contemporary poetry. Most new poetry is "just OK" or at best, "predictable."Little or nothing is being written that is really thrilling--until Kate Tempest's "Brand New Ancients."I found myself reading passages over and over again. What a pleasure! I can't wait for her next book!

I was not surprised when I read that Kate Tempest was a spoken word poet, as this reads very much like that. A nice rhythm, beautiful language, and a unique experience to read a story written in verse--haven't done that in years. I felt it interesting to see the rather mundane stories of modern day mundane people elevated to verse--somehow, it suddenly becomes sadly beautiful instead of just cliche.

Story weaving words around people’s lives conjuring love, compassion, humility, unity in diversity of color, culture, station. We are all gods.

This is a poem that you enjoy reading it as much as you enjoy hearing it recited by the poet with its musicality, fresh images, and expressive language. I loved it.

I believe it took me all of 30-35 minutes to read this. Am I upset that it cost 8 dollars. Not at all. I think my life would be less had I never read this. Again, thank you Kate for being a God that shows gods that they are still gods. And thank you for "Hot night cold spaceship."

Tempest is a visionary. Though the poem is meant to be read aloud and is therefore best in performance, the narrative Tempest creates is new aged while timeless. She's successfully marries the past with the present in a way that is both thought provoking and entertaining.

Good stuff,i dont read a lot ,but this book was just great. It is very well written and it shows the world we live in now in a super realistic way.

Fantastic work from British Spoken-Word artist, Kate Tempest. I happened to stumble upon a film clip on youtube of the piece and just had to read it for myself. Brand New Ancients is just that, a wonderful and heartbreaking ode that reminds you of the ancient myths and showcases them in a truly modern and relevant way.Best read aloud!

Just a wonderful epic poem that I could not put down......must be read at one bite ......the lovely thing about reading Kate's work is that I can hear her voice in my head, having seen her live several times.

Love it. Kate Tempest is incredible, creating a Greek myth for modern times. Fantastic and addictive.
