A Dog With 2 Tails....
The wife that is...has been dragging the old Dyson DC025 around for some years now and it would be fair to say that her Arms have grown in length over the years due to he weight of it and the daily dragging it up and down stairs for her, was the killer, especially when you live in a big Villa in Spain that produces more dust than Dusty Bin in a Sand Storm... But despite the fact that it had one of the best Sucks we had ever come across, it was time for demotion to the basement for it.... After much browsing and reading of Misleading Manufacturers reports, she opted for the VAX U90 Bagless jobby...One Amazon Order later and lightning quick delivery out here to Alicante, Spain from Amazon, we are ready to go with bated breath....First time out of the box, it seemed Plasticy but for that just keep a good tube of Super Glue on Hand for those Òh its snapped off all by itself unfortunate times'... It assembled quickly, and we worked out all the simple range of effective height adjustments for the main Handle. This being made easy fankfuly to the engrish instructions that had carefully been written by an engrish pershion , So we plugged it in and switched on at arms length. Second impressions, The Motor had a sweet winey sound that would give the Dog Hell.. and it did as he immediately tried to attack it as the enemy invading his space.... but lobbing him in the other room sure fixed that..... Its light in weight, a good sign, but not flimsy and crackly as you move it. You can see all the bits and gubbins inside, helpful if looking for a blockage of the 10 Euro notes youve just sucked up whilst fighting the dog away again, because he had escaped out of the original room and brought the contents of your Wallet with him and made a paper trail along the way of 5 and 10 euro notes that you have started to suck up accidentaly. So the test.. Yes, I know you are waiting for me to say that 'it had a Good Overall Suck'. It lifted the heavyweight rugs in places...thats more than I can do, and it really did get in to the corners and get the bits of Biscuits and food out,.... well thats what it looked like anyway.... It maouvered well and it had a decent Cable length on it.... Yippee......No more extension leads for the dog to chew through even though of late he has taken a partial liking to the flavour of the new Vax Mains Cable....It reached in places where I never though we had places and where we have never been before and generally got the hard to get to bits up. We waltzed around the house with it picturing Freddie Mercury, in drag, singing I want to Break Free, and Robin Williams In Mrs Doubtfire dancing with the Vacuum Cleaner, as it glided with ease across the Marble and Tile Floors. Occasionally having the ability to turn on and off the Brush Bar\Beater Aggitator as required to cope with the wide range of surfaces on the upper floor, ranging from Marble, Tiles, Shag Piled Rugs, Smooth and Berber types of Carpets as we flipped around the 5 bedrooms in the Villa... The Crevass and Soft Head Brush accessory tools adding to the flexility of the device by doing what was expected of them in various places with no surprises. Connecting them and the extension tube is a bit novel because you have to release a lower and tucked away tube, on the lower rear panel and then drag it upwards towards you into the daylight so you can join the various bits on to it, including the Ext Tube. A few seconds extra but just a bit odd though. The Extension Tube is a good un and stretches to an incredible length, well in excess of the old Boy Dyson....The suction at the end is ... well let me say that it 'surely does give you a good effective suck'..(am I allowed to say that)? Now in with the package we had the Power Cleaning Rotary Head, that resembles one of the Alien Heads from the Movie 'War Of The Worlds' (well it does a bit) and to me this is the Star of the Show an is the real thing.... It attaches to the end of the ext Tube and is air driven by the vacuum effect created inside the Alien head as the air is drawn in. The internal brush rotates very powerfully and gives you the 'Feeling Of Power'... attacking the Heavyweight wool rugs and Shag Piles, it just picked up the Pile on them both and gave it them the near look from when it was new. Surprisingly no damage to or Jam ups caused any the Black Shags with a very log Pile I spent quite a few moments putting a Wembley Stripe effect on the one Rug, that did look impressive having never seen Black Grass before,.... but that didnt really impress the wife but it has given me ideas for the future and the Artificial lawn out front or back... but thats another story..... Now to the car.... as much as I hate cleaning the Car, the Vax breezed its way around it with ease, all tools being used at various times. But once again the Hero of the Tools, the Power Brush was really doing its stuff againy bringing up the Pile on the inner carpets and also gets rid of those dog and cat hairs, which is strange when you aint got a Cat...., And surprisingly it made quite a good job of the always Grubby Boot Carpet aswell as the Ford Synthetic Velvet Seat Pile Canvases very well. But a Wembley stripe in the car didnt look too good, not that I like football anyway that is. So for the car it gets a 10 out of 10 for the overall Car Clean.....So here we go with the final Summary... I have always been a Dyson man, and before that, an Electrolux 5 or 602s Upright Man, and even before that a Hoover Constellation Cylinder (1960s &70s).....so for me to give it the once over may have been harsh due to my previous Biases...and not forgetting my previous experience of actually professionally fixing the things for a job whilst I was a wee Apprentice and beyond, many moons ago. BUT...Top marks to the Vax for the Price... I think we got it for something like 50% off on a special, The weight reduction is massive compared to the Dyson DC05, the wife no longer moans about dragging it up and down the stairs (cos I have to do it)...no that was a joke.... The carpet cleaning is near as damn it faultless. Performance on hard surfaces is very good with no binding or drawing down of the cleaning head to the floor with or without Agitator being on or off over a range of piles and surfaces. The edge cleaning is near as damn 100%. The Ext Tube is long, flexes well and has got the compulsory top to bottom stairs reach, hence giving you the cconfidence to know that you will not be having the Vax come flying up past your head when the tube gets too tight, and under the strain the cleaner fancies going for flying lessons, and always towards you..... The tools supplied do what you would expect them to do, even though I still recon all Manufacturers should produce a longer and thinner Crevass tool, so you can reach and get in, to and behind odd places, like down the sides of the cars seats to pick up the crisps and other goodies you cant get to with your fingers, or down behing Radiators.... (not that we need them in Alicante, that is).... But for me, being a typical Un Macho Male, Ive left what I think the best till last... yes, its the powerered cleaning head.. it is extremely effective at cleaning many surfaces apart from things like The TV Screen or the Laptop Screen or Keyboard as the scratches it could produce dont do much for the cosmetic effect of the devices.... But all the same a very usefull bit of Kit...... The one Down Side....... If it was an Aqua Vac type device and could deal with water type jobs, i.e. small Rug and Carpets Cleans, and Rapid Response jobs like the infamous Spilled Drink and Dog Pee Stains, it would then be 110 % instead of the 100% as I am sure it would do justice to those type of carpet jobs when the need is there for conventional cleaning by using off the shelf Carpet Cleaning Detergents without being Crow Bar forced into purchasing tins and tins of lovely smelling overpriced Branded carpet Cleaning Foams........... Anyway, happy cleaning. I Hope that you have enjoyed reading my honest, No Frills Review the way I see it rather than getting Sales Ad Banter from someone who does not know his Velvet from his Long Shag in the world of Carpets.. Read it again if you are bored or just to ensure you are doing the right thing or prove that I haven't lost the plot really.... Anyway....so Im off back to play with my new ímproved' Astro turf lawn with added Wembley Stripes.....C ya Folks.. (GuyJMit-Alicante)

Excellent Cleaner
It is claimed by Vax to be the lightest upright cleaner and I have no reason to doubt this. The only negative comment I have is the size of the dust container, it is OK for me as I have a mix of hard floors and rugs and as most dust etc is picked up from carpets / rugs but if anyone has only carpets they will find that they have to empty the container often. Emptying is easy or should be, just remove the container push a catch and a flap comes down emptying the dust, well that is what should happen. In reality the dust often catches higher up and you have to do what Vax describes as "advanced cleaning" it is not difficult and just involves a twist and pulling the dust container apart but it does make emptying the cleaner a bit harder. In use it is excellent and does clean well one of the things that I particularly like is the sweeper brushes are turned on or off by a button next to the on off button which saves having to bend down and fiddle about. If the brush jams there is a reset button near the brush. Although it has a very long hose and the adjustable handle doubles as an extension I did not realise that the long extension is an accessory which although clipped to the side of the cleaner needs to be connected to form a longer extension, a bit fiddly. The turbo accessory works well and although driven by suction is effective, the cavity tool clips on to the back of the cleaner but falls off quite easily. In summary an excellent lightweight cleaner which is nearly perfect. Should be 4 ½ star.

Superior to any dyson, lightweight and powerful. Excellent value for money, highly recommended.
Excellent value for money, lightweight and powerful Hoover. I purchased this as a "good" condition used warehouse deal for less than half price, it arrived in the original packaging with no signs or use or wear whatsoever.Assembly took less than two minutes and was ready for use. The Hoover is ultra lightweight compared to the dyson dc33 it replaced. It is far easier to manoeuvre around the house and due to the very flat head, can reach right under drawers, cabinets, and other low pieces of furniture with ease. This is something I would have had to use accessories for with the old dyson and so the VAX is far superior In that regard. The cleaner head has side suction so it really cleans right into the corners and edges of each room.Attaching the extending hose takes seconds only and I was very impressed that after connecting the hose to the handle I could comfortably reach the coving in my Victorian house to clean with total ease. I am very short and so this was a revelation as I would usually have to do this with the aid of ladders. The tools the Vax comes with fit neatly and securely into the back of the Hoover and are very easy to interchange. The pet hair tool is excellent for stairs and furniture. In terms of suction, initially I was not sure how powerful it was until I saw the dust bin completely full (having hoovered thoroughly the previous day with the dyson!) and my rugs and carpets looked like new. The air in the house was also much cleaner which was immediately noticeable. I will say at this stage I am very ocd with cleaning and was therefore shocked at the results the Vax gave given I hoover and dust daily. The cord length is excellent. I could Hoover the whole of each floor in the house without having to change sockets. The dust bin is very easy to use and easier to detach and reattach to the Vaccuum itself than the dyson. To address a concern raised in other reviews about the Hoover being too hard to push in use and sucking up rugs, I did not find this to be an issue. I found it much lighter to use than the dyson, easier to push than the dyson and the suction is better. I did suck up at shirt from under a bed, it was easily removed and no issues from then on. I would expect any good vacuum to suck something so light up if it came into contact. It is certainly not a flaw with the vacuum and I would not be concerned about this If you are considering purchasing.Overall I would say this Vax is by far superior to any dyson(s) I have previously owned, the results were truly astonishing and I would not hesitate to recommend to others. I believe at full price this vacuum is a bargain and represents good value for money, but the used warehouse deal is exceptional value.
