Bye-Bye Bottles, Zebra (Hello Genius)

Cute! But why THROW the bottle?! 😩🍼
I’m trying REALLY hard to get my 2.5 year old off his bottle for naps and bed. It’s HARD, and I wish I’d known sooner how tough this habit would be to break. He doesn’t use pacifiers or suck his thumb, so this is his one last “baby habit” that needs to be broken before we can start potty training. I know what you’re thinking…. But he has sleep issues and his team of therapists has always said we’d get to the bottle later! I’ve tried cold turkey but he won’t sleep, I’ve tried every cup out there, etc.He LOVES this book and asks to read it all day. It’s super simple and not very long, but that’s OK: it gets the point across. He has a speech delay but picked up “NO MORE BOTTLE” after reading this for one day! I think this might actually work. The only thing I don’t like is how they show zebra THROWING the bottle. Please…. Throw it in the garbage! Or hand it back to Mommy….. but don’t throw it. 🤦🏻♀️Planning on buying a sippy that looks exactly like the one Zebra uses, if I can find one! I’ll update when we get off the bottle for good.Hope this helps!

Commit and follow through
We read bye bye bottle zebra for 2 weeks. Went to 1 bottle a day & Used the phrases “you use a sippy cup” took the bottle on week 3 and it wasn’t so bad. We’ve had a couple of whining spells, and I don’t want a cup stand offs but we made the cup anyway, set it out and a few minutes later she asked for it and was fine! Win for us!

It's okay
This book has not magically convinced my toddler to stop the bottle. As some others have stated there are two annoying things about the book: I wish milk was depicted instead of juice, and I don't like that the bottle is thrown. Aside from that, it is a super easy read, short, and not a ton of verbiage.

Good book to help with weaning
A well loved book! And definitely a first step in weaning the bottle. We struggled with the night time bottle. Got to be honest it’s not gonna cute the bottle craving in one night BUT after a few reads my little was saying “no thank you” as we flipped through the book!

Worked the 1st Night!!! No more bottles and no crying!!!
This book did the trick to get my 2 1/2 year old off the bottle! We were super behind (please don't judge) and dreading the process because the few times we had tried not giving him a nighttime bottle he would cry until he made himself sick. I read this story to him after bath time and he kept wanting to hear it over and over. Nice simple writing and colorful pictures. Then we put him in his crib for bed and read it to him 2 more times. He asked for a baba once, I reminded him about the zebra and how he is a big boy now and no babas, and then he was fine and went to sleep! Since then, he has not asked for a bottle and I was able to pack them all up! Magical!!!

Used to wean off breast feeding!
I used this book to get my daughter to stop breastfeeding. I changed the word bottle to ‘boobie’ because that’s what she called them and it worked. I also prepared her for like two weeks before hand. I told her she wasn’t going to have anymore ‘boobie milk’ once she turns three and I reminded her constantly. So once her birthday arrived I had already prepared her and she was comfortable because of the book. The book was a big plus because she actually remembered the words to the book and would ‘read’ it all by herself. She really enjoyed the book and still reads it.

My kids love the book but I'm giving it 3 stars because ...
This book is cute but these parent either have kids ready to give up their bottles or they are lying about their successes. $7 wasnt much to spend on trying but the message has yet to register with my 22month old twins. My kids love the book but I'm giving it 3 stars because I don't want other parents to think it's a miracle worker.

Bye bye bottles helped my 20 month old!
This book really helped my toddler stop drinking her bottle! She used her bottle as a calming method and I knew she needed to learn new skills to help self sooth. We read it a few times a week and then after a month she became really interested in the book. One day I asked if she wanted a bottle before bed and she laughed and got out her “zebra book” and just like that, she was over the bottle! I was shocked. She hasn’t had a bottle since!

Try it!
Purchased for my 19 month old. Read it and then he asked me to read it 2 more times back-to-back. I told him he was a big boy, just like zebra, and showed him his new big kid cups. I also showed him I was throwing out his baby bottles (except I snuck them back in later and hid them for his future sibling.) I let him choose the sippy cup of his choice for milk, but he knows there are no more bottles. Going cold turkey really worked for us. I plan on doing the same for the pacifier. I already bought that one and the big kid bed from the same author for the next milestones. Hoping they work just as well, but I think if parents stick to the plan, everything will pan out.
