Arthrodire Placoderms...
There is, essentially, nothing like the ancient Arthrodire Placoderms alive on this planet today... This, combined with the fact that they were obviously one of the most formidable engines of destruction Earthly Nature ever devised, makes them extremely fascinating. At least to loonies like me who'd actually consider entering the water with one just to be able to see one alive... which would, like as not, be fatal, but...This may be exposing a hitherto unsuspected level of weirdness on my behalf, but I always wanted a pet Dinichthys when I was a child. Actually, I'd happily have one now... but, the whole placoderms being extinct thing makes that impossible. Models thus have to suffice. I've only managed to find any good models of placoderms like Dunkleosteus and Dinichthys in relatively recent years, but the quality of these makes up for the long years I spent with nothing but my home-made one who now sadly resembles a squashed assemblage of cardboard more than a terrifying prehistoric Monster Death Fish...This particular model of Dunkleosteus is well made, good quality, and highly detailed, with the signature bony armour and blade "teeth" of the creature well depicted. The paint job is subtle but effective. The rows of armour plates below the lateral line are an interesting and good looking addition lacking from previous models I've seen. For anyone as rabidly obsessed with Dunkleosteus as myself, or anyone with a normal interest who hasn't yet got a model of this species at all, this is very highly recommended.

Pterodino
I can't pronounce this dinosaur's name but our 5-year old resident palaeontologist can and knows much more about it. To me its just great that this Dino is very different than the usual grey or green raptor or rex, so its great for variation. Second, it has has a great an bright red colour-scheme - although no-one can tell whether that is accurate. There are a few issues, i.) its not a pterodactyl, that my son was hoping for and that seems to miss in Schleich's current line. ii.) its a bit small, and iii.) some of the larger Schleich dino's it lacks articulation. As usual the Schleich figure is of high quality, with good detail and the paint seems to be more durable than with other brands.

I bought this for my son after he loved the Octonauts book about the giant goldfish
I bought this for my son after he loved the Octonauts book about the giant goldfish, that turned out to be a Dunkleosteus called Dunkie. This toy is now is absolute favourite and is the envy of all the other preschoolers we meet. Just bizarre as it is a rather angry and aggressive looking amoured fish!Very well made to schleich's very high quality. As life like it could be with realistic detailing. Solid.
