Why is it important to have belts and hoses replaced periodically?

If a drivebelt or radiator coolant hose fails while driving, you won’t be able to continue driving — and additional engine damage may occur if the engine overheats.

How long do belts and hoses typically last?

Lifespans of belts and hoses vary based on factors including the climate and driving habits, but generally a drivebelt (also known as a serpentine belt) lasts about 50,000-100,00 miles, while radiator coolant hoses can last about five years.

What are signs the drivebelt needs replacement?

A worn drivebelt can slip while the engine is running, causing high-pitched squealing or chirping sounds. Additionally, it can show cracks and fraying around the edges or a glazed (shiny) appearance. They’re signs it’s time to change the belt.

What about the tensioner pulley?

The tensioner pulley complements the drivebelt and is also subject to wear and possible replacement. Signs it may need replacement include squealing sounds or, if the bearing is failing, a grinding sound while the engine is running.

What are signs of a failing radiator hose?

A worn or failing radiator coolant hose often develops cracks that lead to leaks. Evidence for that includes drips or puddles beneath the radiator or engine, along with the odor of coolant. The engine may also overheat.

Good Quality and Easy to install.

This Acdelco serpentine belt was a good replacement for my truck that needed a new one. The price was fair compared to the local big box parts store. It was easy to install. The quality of the belt seems to be equivalent to the original. Over all a good buy.

Nice and quiet

I had a hard time getting this belt on and thought it was too short but after I finally got under the idler pulley of my 2000 Astro it was nice and quiet...and pretty snug I might add.
