Highly recommended
Barley Wines, big beers that grab you by the lapels and make you take notice, are often difficult to get just right. This book is written by Fal Allen, a writer who is the current brewmaster at Anderson Valley Brewing Company and Dick Cantwell, co-founder and former brewmaster at Elysian Brewing Company. Both authors have brewed Barley Wine commercially that rate in the mid-90’s and are both authors important craft beer advocates. Like other books in the series, the authors review the history of barley wine and describe the beer’s flavor profile. Where they shine is their discussion of the materials that make up the beer and the processes needed to craft a well-made big beer. Both the home brewer and the craft brewer will benefit from the author’s advice on key steps in the process gained from their practical experience. The beer aficionado will also benefit from learning what goes into brewing a world-class barley wine. The book was published in 1998 and still very relevant.

It got tons of details around the barleywines
This is one of the better books about beer that I've ever read. The history told by the two authors is fantastic, the richness of these style is covered to the top through the chapters. It counts yet with a great recipe book with various great comercial barleywines and garage ones. If you're passionate by the Barleywine style, this book will explain so many things of the most complex beer that mankind have ever did.

Great info, but could use an update
Great information, but some of it is a little outdated. If you've never brewed a barleywine before, you'll get lots of useful tips. Despite its age, it's a great book to add to your brewing library.

great barley wine resource
a well researched and written book, with the one caveat that the barley wine breweries known are listed in alpha order but no clue as to location. Strange, and worthless. Otherwise, recommended.

A good read
A nice thorough book with lots of info from different breweries about making the style. Covers the original English ales as well as their US counterparts and the differences between them. A good read.

Good treatise on big beer
Very useful book. You aren't going to churn out a Bigfoot after reading this but the book addresses everything you should know getting into it. Big beers are much harder to brew.
