As the other individual mentioned, DJI just released firmware updates for both the Mini 2 and the Smart Controller which allow control of the Mini 2 with the Smart Controller. It's important to update the firmware on your Mini 2 first using the provided Mini 2 controller to enable the Smart Controller to find it.

I ordered a Smart Controller as this will be much more convenient than using my Smart Phone with the controller provided with the Mini 2.

I was gifted an Air 2. Initially I just used my cell phone. But my buddy had the smart controller. So I ordered it right away and have only used that since. I’ve never had goggles.

Can this controller be used with mavic pro?

BE VERY CAREFUL in believing what they say about compatibility.  This is NOT FULLY COMPATIBILE with the 2S.  That was exactly the question I asked before buying the 2S because previously I was flying a Phantom 4 pro and wanted a different drone. I asked that question and they said it was but it WAS NOT.  The custom control section is unusable for the 2S.  I went to the DJI support and I spent over 15hrs providing data and getting the run around. This is a KNOW ISSUE to them but they choose to not fix the software.  Yes, I waited for the next 2 versions of SW but they did not fix the custom controls.  I really sucks because DJI's idea of UP/DOWN joystick control is opposite of all real world applications.   In an airplane, you pull the still back, you go up.  Yes, Sorry about the soap box but it is frustrating that they just quit responding and made no effort to fix the issue. I have had many other users comment to me directly sharing the same feeling.  It is a real shame considering that in all other aspects, they seem to have a good product but they have lost some consumer confidence due to this issue.

you just download and install the DJI software: DJI assistant. get the correct version for your drone.   then you launch the software, plug the smart controller and pc together using a usb cable.  plug into the smart controller charging port and then a usb port.  not sure if i used 3.0 or  2.0 port.

the dji assistant software will recognize the controller and tell  you there is an update available.  be sure the controller is FULLY charged before starting.
if the software fails to see the controller...unplug the controller from the pc/ensure the controller is turned on. plug back in.  it is very sensitive to the sequence of events here to recognize the controller.
