Scholastic Success With Reading Comprehension: Grade 1 Workbook

I home school my children and use this for my 5&7 year olds(Grade K&2). My 5 year old is an advanced reader and my 7 year old struggles with reading. I had been searching for quite some time for a good comprehension book that may work for both of them. It makes clear of the concept it is teaching (such as "real vs. make-believe" or "sequencing") and contains a few worksheets for each concept so you can be sure your child has practice with each idea. This book is filled with fun stories and activities and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to supplement into daily reading activities. My kids both love doing these worksheets. I will be sure to continue with this series as they get older!

Guess what we are on chapter 5 , it’s good for KG and first graders , my son has some struggles with comprehension , my plan is to finish this book in next 10 days ... great experience , easy to read and understand for kids ... stories are becoming complex as we go ahead

Very simple stories. Good for kindergarten or 1st grade. For a more advanced reader, you may want to look for something else. I do like the variety of topics read about and the topics covered in the comprehension. I do enjoy other reading comprehension books better, but for a quick assignment, these are great for the price. I used to teach public school and now I homeschool 5 kids, so I've seen a lot of good and bad comprehension books. I would give this about a 7 out of 10.

Great teaching tool

Purchased this as a supplement for our language arts homeschool curriculum which was lacking reading comprehension. I have been pleasantly surprised by this! The quality for the price is great. It sneaks a lot of other learning in through the stories (not all, but some). It also uses several different modalities which keeps things interesting - circling, writing, fill-in the blank, there is even cutting and pasting. It truly is a great find for such a reasonable price and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. This would also be great for summer!

I use this as our main Reading Comprehension workbook for home-schooling my child. The stories are cute and have different ways of "testing" for comprehension: questions, coloring answers, as well as additional activities listed at the bottom of the page so that the Iearning-fun can continue on another sheet of paper :) The activities become more challenging as you get through the workbook which makes your little learner have to think more creatively to get the job done... Very nice book. I plan on continuing with this company as my child moves up the grade ladder...

I have been using this with my grandson who will be in first grade as a summer bridge activity. Good comprehension work with the ability to extend the lesson with other activities.
