I haven't done this but I know other people have. One end of the cable is Micro-USB and the other is Mini-USB.

Because this requires special software, i'm wondering if i could still change the keyboard layout to dvorak in settings?

I use dvorak. if you just set your keyboard input to dvorakin software, it will do just that. If you want the keyboard to output the right characters in dvorak for any device, you'll need to flash the firmware/update the layout in HW.

It used a micro USB to mini USB cable. In theory USB can travel 10 in a cable without a signal booster. I am not sure if the keyboard provides enough power to make the distance. On windows( but not mac) you can connect each half separately. So that might be an alternative.
