In the words of The Washington Post, "With 2666, Roberto Bolaño joins the ambitious overachievers of the twentieth-century novel, those like Proust, Musil, Joyce, Gaddis, Pynchon, Fuentes, and Vollmann, who push the novel far past its conventional size and scope to encompass an entire era, deploying encyclopedic knowledge and stylistic verve to offer a grand, if sometimes idiosyncratic, summation of their culture and the novelist's place in it. Bolaño has joined the immortals." Review: 2666 Review - When asked what this book is about, initially it is very difficult to answer. Is it about the leading characters of each section? No, this book is a masterpiece about life as a whole told through a series of anecdotes and events that to the characters in the book seem unrelated. Only the reader has the privilege of connecting the dots of every minutia in 2666. Everything Roberto Bolaño gives us is related to something else, sometimes we find out what that relation is and sometimes we don't. Therein lies the grandness of this work. It turns into a detective story whose only case is life itself (and the murders in Santa Teresa). In spite of this I wouldn't dare say it's a detective novel, it's just a simple book about a complex subject told through nightmarish visions, childish hopes, detective like determination, critic like analysis and the awe of someone who can't believe whats happening in his life and is enjoying the ride. It's about life and how we are to small to ever understand it and how our actions affect even those who are nowhere near us. it takes you on incredible ride through history, the world and the psyche of the characters. The literary style of the book is complex. After the first few pages you fall into the world of 2666 and understand the thoughts of the characters as they are written in a poetic free flow form of prose. In conclusion, this is an excellent book that becomes difficult to let go of. Read it.

One of a Kind Masterpiece
This is an amazing book that took me places I've never gone before, or even knew existed. Bolano's characters are rich and complex and the stories are woven together in ways I never imagined possible. I was glad I was able to read it in Spanish because the full richness of the language adds so much to the pleasure of reading this book. Give yourself over to where he takes you and you won't regret it.

Gran prosa, historia

Wow
I was already a Bolaño fan, but this one is incredible. The typical Bolaño digressions are generally more captivating and interesting than in some of his other books. It's also incredibly long, but well worth it so far. I just got to the 4th part, which focuses on the murders themselves and the setting of St Teresa (Juarez). If you're a non-native speaker like me and you're not used to Mexican Spanish, the Kindle edition (with the dictionary feature) is nice.
