Can this be used on the stairs? Or does it need an extender?

Yes, it is perfect to be used on stairs. It depends on the width of the stairs, should work fine if it is between 75-85 cm.

What is the material?! Metal or plastic

It like metal railings with plastic handle and lock... seems to be sturdy as of now

My doorway is about 58 cm. can i remove couple of grills to reduce its length. what other option do i have?

If you are buying the gate with seperate extension it is possible to remove.
