Quality cable, length, power requirements and,..
when installing some new exterior video cams i had one cable wasn't long enough to get it where i wanted it to be mounted. as i'd used the old extension i had on hand with an existing cam and that worked great. consequently why i went ahead and ordered this one the cable itself appears well made, no obvious issues. as to how well it works? just fine with absolutely no issues but a caveat for some users in regards to hardware limitations for usb power delivery which applies to all usb cables. so before posting this feedback i noticed one reviewer who politely dinged the cable saying it was a power vampire in a manner of speaking? when it comes to power & usb sources cable length matters. usb 2 stubbornly remains the most common type of usb power sources but provide only a trickle of power. in my experience when going beyond approx. 15' you need a usb power source with more power than you could use with something shorter in length. by 'the book' USB 2.0 spec limits the length of cables to 16’ 5”. USB 3 has a limit of 30 meters or approx. 98’ 5” e.g. 6x the distance. So without using additional hardware in the mix the cables, this extension, our expectations for its use needs keep in mind design limitations. the total distance matters not just the length of the extension cable. most recent example when hooking up exterior cams one using the manufacturers power supply total length at 26' and the cam wouldn't function. i then swapped it out with a more powerful amazon echo usb plug and all worked fine. i performed the same test on another and had to do the same swap to get it function. all of those cams worked using their stock power supplies when used with shorter cables(10') that came with. i have gone through this in the past, having learned the hard way when managing the installation of our town's new systems as well as in my own office/home. to reiterate a usb 3 port averages 7 watts, a 'regular' usb 2 port puts out at most 2.5 watts. also why you on some pc's you can only charge devices using the designated usb 3 port not the other slower usb 2 ports. so in this instance what the one reviewer missed in regards to power delivery with this or any usb extension cable is that how much power going in matters as much or more so than the cable length,in total, used to move it from point a to point b. all said i would not hesitate to purchase another of these extension cords. IF however i needed this primarily for transferring data i would then need to get a usb 3 cable, those have different male ends as well as internal difference. but again only if data was my priority not power.

Works to extend Zigbee/Zwave dongles
Successfully used to extend my Zigbee and Z-wave dongles away to avoid interference from the USB-3.0/USB 3.1 ports of my miniPC I use for my Home Assistant setup. My dongles are as reliable as expected.

Needs cutting or trimming to adjust USB-A receptacle
I purchased this extension to use with an external DVD drive that has data and power plugs at one end of the cable. Rather than use up another USB port on my computer, I decided to use the extender with the power connector and run it to a USB-A power adapter. This worked perfect. If you're in a similar situation, note that the data cable plug is usually the thicker one that comes first, and then the power cable is thin and comes from the casing of the first USB-A male plug. Due to some design issues and quality control problems, I needed to correct some issues with this USB extension cable. I would not recommend this cable for any high wattage power need or significant data throughput. It seems to be a slightly cheaper quality than others that have high wattage and high data throughput ratings. In the photos I have included here, you can see the original female USB-A receptacle is recessed. Most USB-A male plugs will have casing that is larger than the opening and thus can't plug in. So, the remedy is to carefully take a sharp knife or box cutter and trim the plastic casing from the USB-A female receptacle. The before and after photos show the results. After trimming, the cable should work with all suitable plugs. Another issue with this extension is that the male end was bent. So, the rectangular shape of the male plug was concave (bent inward). Using a small pliers it was possible to bend it back into shape and then it worked. I think the design and quality control could be improved for this item.

A Simple Solution for Family Gatherings
I’m always looking for practical tech solutions that make life easier, and this Monoprice USB Extension Cable has been a perfect find for something I do regularly. I use it to connect a USB pen drive to my TV so I can display family photos and videos during gatherings. It’s a small thing, but it has made a big difference in how I enjoy time with family. Here’s the thing: when you have a TV mounted on the wall, accessing the USB ports on the back is a total hassle. The TV is often up high or in a corner, and the USB ports are tucked away so far behind that it’s a real pain to plug in a USB stick. I used to have to drag out a step ladder or move furniture just to reach the port, and it was always a bit of a production. This Monoprice extension cable solved that problem completely. I simply plug the male end into the TV’s USB port and then run the extension cable to a much more accessible spot—around the side of the TV or along the stand. Now, I can just pop the pen drive in and out whenever I need to show the pictures. No more messing around with awkward angles or moving things around to access the back of the TV. It’s a small thing, but it has made family gatherings and slide shows so much more convenient. How It Performs The build quality is excellent for the price. The cable is flexible but feels durable, and the connectors fit snugly without any issues. I’ve been using it regularly for months now without any signal loss or performance issues. It works perfectly for what I need—just plugging in a USB drive and having it display my media on the TV without any hitches. The 6-foot length is perfect for my setup. It gives me plenty of reach without being too long and messy. The cable is also flexible enough to hide neatly behind the TV stand or along the side of the wall, so it doesn't create clutter. Why I Recommend It If you have a TV mounted on the wall and find it difficult to access the USB ports on the back, this extension cable is a game-changer. It's such a simple solution, but it works brilliantly for connecting USB drives and keeps your setup tidy and accessible. It’s also affordable, well-made, and gets the job done without any fuss. Overall, this Monoprice USB extension cable has been a reliable and practical addition to my setup. It’s a simple, no-frills solution that makes my family gatherings a lot smoother. If you’re looking for a basic USB extension cable to solve a similar problem, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

Not a cheap cable
If you just need an extension cable for a mouse or keyboard, this cable might be an overkill, but for demanding applications, the not-so-obvious feature will suite you well. Things to note: - 28/24 AWG means the wires for power delivery are thicker than in a traditional USB cable. (28/28) Important if you need to power a more power-hungry device over this USB cable like a hard drive. - shielding to protect data line from interference - gold plated connectors to ensure solid contacts Recommended

Perfect for a wireless keyboard.
Ideal! Highly recommended. Using to distance a Logitech K400 RF wireless keyboard/trackpad dongle from my PC case. These type of keyboard/mouse dongles are subject to RF interference when plugged into USB 3 (blue) ports. My only USB 2.0 (white) ports are on the back of the case, and the steel rack-mounted case caused to much signal degradation to maintain a constant connection. This extension cable allowed me to still use the 2.0 port, but extend the dongle far enough from the case to work perfectly. I am very pleased. I am buying another to do the same thing with another peripheral.

Works just fine, at a great price
I bought this cable to act as an extension cord for my charging station which came with a very short USB cable. Now I can leave the charging station on a shelf instead of taking up space on my desktop. It transfers power efficiently (batteries recharge fast.) I haven't used the cable for data transfer, but then that's not why I got it.

Great extension cable.
Does its job perfectly. I bought it to use a Leap Motion with my HTC Vive as the Leap cable won't fit into the integrated USB port. This one was just bound to the existing wiring so it didn't get in the way and allowed me to stick my Leap Motion onto the front of the Vive. Of course, this cable would be totally fine for other purposes. Looks to be of good quality and I would recommend it.
