This is a good microscope, very easy to use and set up
This is a good microscope, very easy to use and set up. HOWEVER, I purchased this microscope so I could use the camera feature to be able to display what was in the field on my computer/projector for teaching purposes. It's important to know that the camera's field of view is significantly smaller and MUCH more zoomed in that what you see through the eyepiece. I called tech support and they said that's just how the camera is set up and there's no way around that. So for me, the camera is basically useless because it is far too zoomed in to view the specimens. I am using it primarily for ticks/tick identification if that helps. I purchased another plugable microscope camera that I use to view the specimens instead. I still like the scope because it does give a great view of the specimens if an individual is using it. Not so great for a teaching setting though.

AmScope SE306 Microscope with Digital Camera
For the price this is a quality binocular microscope. I use it to identify & classify micro-seashells. Easy to set up and use. The clarity and illumination are excellent. It is easy to change from 20X to 40X ocular inserts. The MD-200 digital camera and driver software work well for both still & video photographer; however, it does not provide depth setting for 3-D exposure. The digital camera & software are compatible with Microsoft Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8, but not with Windows 8.1 or newer. I contacted AmScope technical services & was told that they are working on new software and digital cameras that will support Windows 8.1.

The Arm loosened rather quickly, but....
...That’s just a maintenance issue. If yours is loose, and If your not intimidated by taking this apart to tightenen the arm - THIS IS A GREAT FIND!

Affordable dissecting scope.
I purchased this microscope to support a recent USAID Farmer-to-Farmer assignment teaching African catfish fingerling production in Nigeria. It was quite effective and affordable for my needs. The camera allowed the entire class to see what was going on (fish eggs hatching) on my computer without the need for everyone lining up to look into the microscope. I am giving it a "5" rating because it performed very well for an inexpensive dissecting microscope; however, I left it behind in Nigeria because this sort of product was very hard to come by there and usually at considerably more expense due to shipping costs to Africa. I am replacing it with another AmScope dissecting microscope, but a 10-20-30-60 scope just because of the size of what I need to look at in the future. I would have preferred a zoom microscope, but these simply cost more and my budget won't justify the convenience. BTW, it travelled quite well in the original shipping container packed into my baggage.

Good value for money
So far so good. Good scope for the money. The USB camera is very low-resolution but I knew that when I bought it. I bought a camera adapter for it, and am happy with it that way.

Excellent quality/performance for the money
I’m a biologist. This scope is almost as good as the expensive ones we used at the university. Visual and lighting quality is great. For the money, outstanding. I use it with my kids to study the world, and it was super easy for the 6yo to pick up how to use it.

The option to view on a laptop or other screen is great for sharing
I've been showing the grandkids the micro world and it's really stimulated their interest in seeing more. Budding scientists which we need in this world. Incredible deal for the price. 10 plus years ago this instrument would have been 3 to 4 times the cost.

Great With a 144 LED Ring Light
The halogen lights are extremely hot and produce too much glare for metallurgical use.I removed the halogen lights, transformer, cord, and installed a 144 LED Ring Light instead. With a 12 V power supply (8 X rechargeable AA battery holder) stored in the base, it is now a great portable and affordable metallurgical microscope.Very handy for impressing clients in the office or field, and the photos can be annotated, scaled, etc. for inclusion in formal engineering proposals that are guaranteed to attract attention.
