Wouldn't the blade guard/foot of a rotary cutter protect the board?

Hi Kenneth: the board is cardboard so a rotary cutter will damage it. I had my previous one for over 20 years and it had some nicks from pins going through the fabric and scratching the cardboard, but was still useable.

Not a self healing, so is it just for like laying on soft surfaces like the carpet so you have a sturdy area to pin & draw patterns?
