Terrific Unit for the Price
I'm a long time user of Furuno and Garmin GPS and Chartplotter products and I can say that I'm very happy with this unit. I installed this and use this item on my Hobie Pro Angler kayak. I'm very impressed with the low power consumption and the options available for presenting the various screens. The sonar performance is more than adequate for my needs fishing on my kakak. I have had a few instances when the sonor freezes for a moment or two. I can't point to a reason why but otherwise the performance has been just fine. The wide screen format is just excellent. Since it's used in a kayak, it does get wet very often and I have no issues with water intrusion. Another plus is the track back feature and recording capabilities. I recommend this over the similarly priced Garmin units. The data presented is very customizable and I find using the menus fairly easy. Overall, I think this is a very tough and functional unit, and is priced about right.

Problem with this unit
This unit has a defect with the ability to show debt at any speed over 40mph. The manufacture had me go through several transducer placements and had me upload the upgrades. The actual down scan is not as detailed as advertised, i would sudgest getting a unit with side imaging.

could be better
The value of this machine is good. Very nice chart plotting and sonar machine. If you are buying for the down imaging feature, don't. That feature is more or less a black and white version of the sonar. If you buy this also purchase a clear screen protector and put it on the screen before you come close to the water. I didn't and realized the waterspots don't come off the screen similar to a laptop screen. After applying the screen protector I've had little issue with that. One poor chart plotting feature is that when your boat runs off the map screen you must manually maneuver the cross hairs to move the map. That's pretty annoying when you're moving at a good clip. Other than that it's been very helpful on the water. It also does not come with a sun cover so you have to purchase that separately. My unit was made in Mexico. Good luck and tight lines!

Lowrance Elite-7 HDI Gold
Great color and clarity on charts and graphs, however, as expensive as it is, I was very disappointed that it did not even come with a cover for the screen. That should be a necessity to keep the screen from being scratched when not in use.

Very Disappointed
I recently switched from Garmin to Lowrance hoping for a better display and better lake maps in the Texas Oklahoma regions. There are some very serious issues with this unit in my opinion making me regret the purchase. First, the screen is polarized at a 45 degree angle. Almost every pair of polarized sunglasses are polarized at 90 degrees perpendicular to the horizon, which is necessary to reduce glare coming off the water or any horizontal surface. So the only way to see the screen at full brightness is to tilt your head to the left 45 degrees. If you tilt your head 45 degrees the other way, the polarization between your glasses and the screen becomes perpendicular and completely blacks out the screen. Looking straight at it and it dims about 50%. Huge disappointment. Second, the performance is very slow. Loading map tiles can take minutes. Change the zoom level and the screen blanks out while it reloads again after a few minutes. Scan ahead or map at your cursor location and the screen blanks out and takes minutes to load. Completely unacceptable. Third, and last, is DO NOT buy Lowrance map products, specifically Lake Insight HD. The maps have poor detail, are not accurate, missing tons of useful information included with other maps, has an almost useless mapping software for PC, doesn't transfer waypoints, trails, or tracks very well, and displays maps in such a low resolution it can be difficult to tell what you're looking at. I'm switching to Navionics HotMaps and if that doesn't improve my overall experience with this unit, I'm dumping Lowrance and going back to Garmin. There are some good points to this product: 1. Choice of map software (Navionics, C-Maps, Lowrance), 2. Bright display IF you don't have polarized sunglasses. 3. Low profile design that looks good mounted on the dash.

Functionally rich
This unit does it all. The only complaint I have is that it sometimes requires a lot of key strokes to do things. Also, there is no operators manual for the Navionics functions (like tide charts).

Ready for the water
Will write an addendum when we take our boat out on the water. It was very easy to hook up however.

Great Fish Finder!
Just got back from a week long fishing trip to Lake Mohave, NV. Had to learn how to run the fish finder on the fly! Very user friendly! Do not use baby wipes to clean screen! In clear water we could see the fish at the front of the boat and fish finder confirmed what we saw off the front of the boat!My pole jumped out of the holder, I marked the spot on the fish finder. We were able to retrieve my pole. Saved me $250 already!
