It is what it says - but probably not appropriate for high wattage appliances
The cord for my 1000W Cuisinart pressure cooker needed replacing (grounding pole on plug came out, and internal wires visible at female end of plug). It proved ridiculously hard to find an appropriate replacement. The original cord was 18G and temperature rated for 105C. So is this replacement cord - one of the few I found with the higher temp rating. However the replacement cord is substantially thinner. Hopefully the wire inside is the correct gauge, but even so, it suggests significantly less insulation on the outside. This cord is also (as described) substantially longer than the original, which I didn't need or want. Longer means more snagging/tripping hazard and higher electrical resistance. But I got it anyway due to my other concerns:The original cord didn't seem particularly well made considering the defects that developed, and cost twice as much. Other similar cords on Amazon had a percentage of people reporting dangerous failures - melting, shorting out, etc. So I was afraid to roll the dice with them. Most don't give a temp rating. Some are rated at only 60C. In the end, this cord seems serviceable, but also pretty much identical to the extra desktop computer cords I already had.I loosely folded up a couple of feet of the unneeded length and secured the bundle with a twist tie. In use, the folded up section got noticeably warm - the rest of the cord did not. I think in the future we will try the the cord completely loose, although that leaves a lot of extra cord laying around. After the fact, I sought out some wire gauge calculators online. For 1000W / 120V it seems the 18G wire is borderline inappropriate - probably should be using 16G (hard to find) or 14G (especially if your appliance draws over 1000W). Longer wires also mean more resistance and thus call for a thicker gauge, but honestly I don't know if the difference between 3 feet and 6 feet is meaningful. In the end I'll keep using this cable unless something goes wrong, but I'm left thinking it's way too hard to find an appropriate replacement cable. It can't cost much to manufacture them with heavier insulation like the original. If I had a higher Watt appliance (as some cookers are) I would definitely go for a thicker gauge (lower number) cable. Some people don't like the stiffness of their original cable, but they are stiff because they are the proper, safe, heavier gauge cable.
