Q: Does it have to be in a dark room/ outdoor area for the projection to work?

No it works inside. I used it for work in a wherehouse and everyone could see just fine.

Q: I have already purchased the unit....what is the easiest and best way to fold the screen back up for storage?

I have been folding it the way that it came which is...first fold it in half along the short side (think hot dog not hamburger). Then fold that in half along the longer side (hamburger this time). From there I fold it in the same direction as the last fold in 9" sections starting from the creased edge (not the open edge). Hint: I use one of the cardboard inserts that came with the original packing to help with the distance. That should fold over 6 or so times and give you a perfect fit in the bag it came with to store the screen.
