What type of charger does this item have? Does it have a charging base which it sits in to power up?

This unit has an AC adapter that plugs into the rear of the vac below the handle. There is NO charging base. You just need to find a flat surface to place it and plug in the cord end of the adapter. My older unit had a charger base. I think I might make a small shelf to mount in the kitchen where I had the other one. Right now, we keep it on a shelf in the garage above our chest freezer. It is different than the old style but works just as well. Just different to clean or replace the filter. I ordered extra filters on line also.

Is this product can be used at 220V? Is this Free Volt product?

No, the included charger is rated only for 110-120v.

I made the mistake to buy this vacuum although living in Australia...can I use an electric convertor to make it work properly and safely?

Check the charger. If it's a 110-220 volt universal type it's fine for Australia. This is the world standard these days. All you need is a cheap plug converter from the $2 shop. No transformer needed.

Can you turn off the blue LED light while the appliance is being charge? Does it stay on after the appliance is fully charged?

No, you can not turn off the blue led light while its being charged. Yes, it stays on when the appliance is fully charged.
